Default Clutch Issue

I have an 07 base z and when I came back from the airport, (my car was left there for 4 days), the clutch would not engage. The clutch would collapse to the midpoint when I depressed it and when I fully pushed on the clutch, I couldn't shift it into gear.

Also from last week on, I had, the clutch would get stuck in the halfway point and I would have to pull it completely out from the midpoint.

Dealer is saying that I might have to pay for a clutch job for $2k. I hate the engagement point of that clutch anyway. Should I just get an aftermarket clutch? and forego the warranty in that area?

I'm at 35,500 miles and have the 100k bumper to bumper warranty.

I'm not sure I wanna pay 2k for the clutch. They also say the stock flywheel costs 1k. I'm thinking of taking it to a mechanic and having him do it. and forego the warranty. The engagement point on the stock clutch is way too high.

How much should I expect to pay for labor on this clutch from a non dealer?

usually if the clutch is bout shot our burnt u can smell the strong odor coming from the clutch and when mine went u could smell it from 20ft away it was that bad. Total repair for the same stock pos clutch was around 1300 from the dealer.....u can check with local tranny shops to see how much they would charge for labor to install new clutch but i would check around on prices first i got took on mine and should have been a warranty issue but was told since i put 20's on the ride my warranty was void so it got the greddy tt and intercooler kit....

Nissan does not like to give away free clutches. If they gave me a OEM clutch I would take it.

If not just go with a aftermarket clutch flywheel combination.

Are you sure your clutch is out completely?
There was recall on a clutch slave cylinder for 07 models.
Check to see if your slave cylinder is out first before paying stealership 2k for clutch job.
If it is out don't go with stock clutch and go with aftermarket clutch and flywheel.

Does not sound like burnt or slipping from your description. Burnt means that the abrasive material on the disc is gone and will not hold the flywheel.

thanks for the info, man it's been helpful. Yeah, there wasn't any smell, the clutch was just getting stuck half way sometimes so hopefully it's a hydraulic issue.

I don't think the clutch is out. It has the usual wear and tear but the clutch was working perfectly before 4 days ago, last time I drove it. And if you start the car in gear by accident, it would move. My friend started the car somehow in reverse and it jerked but the gear would get stuck there or something like that.

They told me that mine didn't have a recall issue but it could be a messed up slave cylinder. They said that it would cost $800 in labor if the issue is not warranted and that they needed $800 to tear it apart and look at it and put it back together because they have to take out the tranny to look at it? Is this the truth or ********?

How do I find out for sure if it's a recall or not? It was recalled for the airbag light on the passenger side which still does not work.

jeez man they want 2k for a clutch and another 1k for a flywheel? You can get a JWT lightweight flywheel/clutch combo for less than a grand if I remember correctly. Holy smokes. I hate dealerships, they are so full of sh!7 dude. Shouldn't a warranty cover all of that stuff. Damn I really really hate dealerships. Professional Con artists

f-ing bastards. They want 800 just to look at at it and another 800 for the labor aspect? i'd tell to go spank sam and demand that it is covered under warranty. they are asking for way too much money from you

Could they be trying to charge me $800 to $2k for a slave cylinder malfunction?

I think it's 2k with the flywheel and if they don't do any service. It costs $800 just to take out the tranny and look at it and put it back to it was.

JWT w/flywheel 775.....install should be around 400 +/- 50. 800 in labor to pull a trans is ludicrously high.

No, they never told me about it. I only went in for a driver's side airbag light recall.

A local mechanical shop quoted me $480.00 on labor to replace the clutch and flywheel. Didn't go ahead with this yet.

1 - check if you qualify for under the slave cylinder recall
2 - be aware that aftermarket clutches have been causing the concentric slave cylinder to break. It's not widespread, but something to think about.

Dealerships here charge $1500 just for the stock flywheel. While mech shops quoted me just under $1000. It's hard to say what to do or where to go, if the clutch and flywheel need to be replaced. Depends if you want to keep that warranty of yours or not.

It was the slave cylinder that needed to be replaced. Funny thing is that the mechanic asked why I didn't come in to get in replaced and why no one told me. The service guys have never heard of this recall and say that it doesn't exist. I think it's a he said/she said thing and the service guys don't know about it. The service guy showed me his computer and this voluntary recall didn't show up.

Anyway, I'm replacing my clutch cause I shift pretty hard. Part is 590 for
factory Nissan clutch Pressure Plate & Disc (Clutch Assemply) labor to put the assembly in 160 for a total of 750 plus tax.

I guess next time I can get the clutch installed locally. My question is do I need a different flywheel if I change the clutch or can I use this one?
