Default Whine Noise Coming from the rear

Ever since I had the car I realized there was a low whine coming from the back of the car. It would only happen at certain speeds and I did the ignorant thing of just leaving it alone and maybe turning up the radio. I know this is a common thing people have heard and most say that its coming from the rear end inside the pumpkin. I have an oil change due really soon and I'm going to swap out the rear end fluids with royal purple. For those of you who know what I'm describing please let me know what you had to do exactly to solve this. Do I need to change out the pumpkin eventually? I did do a search on this but couldn't find anything that was relevant. Thank you for your responses.

Does it occur at the same speed in the same gear? If so, it's probably normal. Every drive train has a resonant frequency that the gears make some noise at. I've always noticed it at 80mph in 6th gear cruising down the interstate.

If it whines all the time, then yes you may have a problem. Changing lube in that case won't help.

That's exactly when it does it! At 80 its def. the loudest and in sixth....I wanna say it will do it in 5th aswell. I just got a bit worried cause it sounds like it's gotten louder. It also sorta goes away at like over 90 + mph.

Mine happens around 55-65. And only happened after I changed my Open Diff with a stock VLSD diff.

All gear trains have a certain amount of "whine" that is loudest at a particular resonant frequency. It may do it at lower speeds and in different gears, but it's probably not as loud or gets drowned out by engine or tire noise. On a smooth blacktop highway at 80 - mine sings.

Every Z I've owned had a particular highway speed where it made the most whine.
