Shifted into Reverse while driving (AT)
Hi,
Today, on my way to the NSCRA, while starting to drive I though I had the car in M so I hit the stick up to shift to 2nd but the stick was actually in D. As a result the wheels locked for a sec and the tranny went into limp mode. After restarting the car everything seems to be working fine. Is there something I could check to be sure there is no damage in the transmission, VB or differential? Does this transmissions have some sort of protection for this kind of stupidity and lack of attention?
Thanks

Aw, man. You'd have to push the button to go from D to R, no?
In any case, the dying engine and limp mode was the electronics protecting the drive train. The tranny probably didn't actually shift into reverse.
If you didn't hear any bad noises from the AT, you're probably O.K. Be careful out there.

All modern day transmissions, especially the one in our car, have protection built to prevent any damage from doing this accidentally. I've been a victim of it myself in my old Maxima: my arm was resting on the shifter, and someone short-stopped in front of me, and the force caused me to push my shift **** into reverse. The car simply stalled and died on me, since I came to a complete stop.
I started it back up, and had the car for probably another 5-7k miles without ever an issue.

This sh*t f@ck my day up! I couldn't even enjoy the race thinking about it. Anyways, my way back home it was an hour and a half drive without a single problem, noise or hiccups on the tranny. I hope everything is fine.
