I know nothing about motors... help?
Alright... I don't know anything about motors really, and I'm curious if there's a website that tells motor newbies like myself what the stuff you guys are talking about means...
I have the basics down, like the more air you push through a motor the more HP you get, and the less restriction on your exhaust the more air is allowed to flow through, thus you get a power increase with aftermarket pipes (usually).
I also know that the more power and the less weight you have the more acceleration you have, but I haven't seen anyone talk about lowering the weight of the car, just raising the power.
Like... as I understand it, if you get an aftermarket flywheel, it decreases the time it takes the motor to rev and um... de-rev because it is lighter, thus inertia and all that is reduced because it's lighter. But doesn't it also make your power to weight ratio better because you shed 15 or so lbs? And yes, I realize that 15 lbs by itself isn't that much weight, but if you do lots of weight modifications wouldn't this decrease your 1/4 mile times? (Like if you shed ~200 lbs).
Anyway, I'm not asking you guys to answer all my questions, just point me to a website that can. Like, a website that explains why changing this or that part increases HP or performance?
Um, thanks

www.howstuffworks.com and just follow the links. You see people talking about making power rather than losing weight much more because it is much cheaper to make power and you don't have to give up nice things about your car like its interior, etc.
