Pushing the Limits
I had been recently wondering if the VQ might be underestimated... Though there have certainly been blown motors... but after running across this video:

I got to wondering if people have been pushing the limits. I was pretty impressed at how far these guys got on nothing but a good tune and wishes and dreams.
When I first boosted my z everyone was saying that 400rwhp was the absolute max. Now I'm seeing 425-450s pretty consistently. It wouldn't be a great idea for a DD but for a toy (like mine) who's to say 450rwhp wouldn't run for quite a few years before letting go? Maybe in 2 years people will be pushing 475rwhp. The better people get at tuning the higher #s we'll see.

When people say 400 whp as the max they mean for general reliability. Sure there will be guys running 500whp and get a year or two out of them but this is not the norm. No matter how good the tune or how much the technology of tuning advances, the limiting factor will always be the connecting rods. Great numbers here for a stock block though and I am very impressed it made this power for as long as it did!
563whp for one night on the dyno and 1 run that ended in blowing up isnt impressive to me.
Sorry Dave
He did however run that car stock block at 470ish whp for a long time, and thru the akarally IIRC, and that is impressive.

I know of people that will beat the crap out of a motor until it blows. When it does, they just go to the junk yard and pick up another for $100, and do a swap in about 4 hours. One person (on another forum) went through 8 motors and 6 transmissions. Again, not something I think is "cool" or would ever do myself, but it's out there.
I am sure in time this will happen to the Z. People (kids) will say I run 500whp on a VQ couple of months at a time.

Did that motor loose a rod or melt a piston....I'd image that unless the fuel pressure was quite high, that those injectors were at a pretty scary duty cycle for 560rwhp (even if running C16)....

I don't recall the exact failure but I do remember reading about it, Dave said it was a cold night and the cold air and increased air flow leaned the car out too much from the warm stagnant air it was tuned with in the dyno room. So it must have been tuned to the ragged edge to start with.
I was pretty amazed that they got it tuned and off the dyno and down the road to blow up on the street with that kind of stupid power on the stock internals. I realize what the weak points of the engine are (note my 7lbs not 17) I was merely saying that I'm awfully impressed at how long it actually made with with that kinda power.
470rwhp for long periods? neat.
Is "premier member" by your name a my350z codeword for "Douchebag"?
Those guys NEVER have anything useful to say or even anything positive to add to a conversation.
thats my observation for which I'm sure I'll get flamed.

OP, best of luck with your diposable motor program, the F/I regulars look forward to you showing us how to do it right.
Oh, and "premier member" in the F/I section means "been there, done that", we police our own in this section so threads started by know-nothing noobs do not spread false information that may cause future noobs to blow up their VQs.
Please take Keith's advice:
i had a built engine shoot two eagle rods through the bottom end with no turbo kit installed it was just a built block driving around town and kaaaaa boom. i was inbetween a single and a twin kit and thanks to APEX automotive in WEST PALM BEACH florida my 6k built engine was gone.

props for having *****...
