Default damper in the clutch?

hey guys im getting my clutch replaced with a oem pressure plate and friction disk and a single mass flywheel. anyway i got a call from the mechanic saying that the old clutch had some kind of damper on it that the new one doesn't and that since i am loosing the damper on the flywheel he doesn't think it is a good idea to also loose the one on the clutch. anyway i have never seen the transmission open so i don't really know what he is talking about(think im gonna stop by tomorrow to have a look) anyway i was hoping you guys would have some input on this?
