hi there folks...im schedualed for my very first oil change. my question is that, what oil should i use? whats the main diff between synthitic and and the other. i also was informed that a brand called redline oil is one of the best? at like 5bux a pop.

also....do i have to remove the middle plastic lining to gain access to the drain bolt and filter?

 

As much as I would love to use only synthetic in mine from the get-go, I was told by many people (including the dealer) to only use regular oil for the first 10,000 miles and then thereafter I may use whatever I would like. I believe this is done so that the piston rings along with other various engine mechanisms "settle" correctly in. I have also read the same thing form many other members from this website. I can tell you that I am watching my oil very meticulously for the first 10,000 miles and change it out before it says so on the little oil change sticker.

As for the middle plastic lining piece I heard that you have to take it off in order to gain access to the drain bolt and filter. However, I am not sure since I have never changed the oil in any car.

 

went synthetic at 2500.... no problems.... mobile 1 syn is the next best thing to Redline...

I dont know why they say 10,000 miles... the engine break in is 2000, so why should you wait to 10,000 to change to syn. It can not hurt either way... Vettes come stock with M1Syn....

You shouldnt switch back to regular after going syn.

 

question...what is the major diff between syn oil and regular oil? and why is it bad to change from syn to regular oil? just curious..thx

 

I just changed my 2nd oil change about 5 min ago. I have been using Mobil one since around 2000 miles. No problems at all. As far as removing the plastic thing it helps to loosen it, to give your self more room to work. But it is not necessary.

 

Synthetic give better lubrication at any engine temperature and especially on cold starts.

Doesnt break down as early.

Bad to go SYN to Regular because your engine sets into using SYN which is thicker and more viscous, using regular oil could cause slight leaks and the engine is not use to the oil, different/ poorer performance.

 

i was lookin for redline syn motor oil at my local perf shop..they didnt carry redline, instead they had motol oil...he says its a better quality oil? has anyone heard of this, i havent changed my oil w/ this yet, i wanna hear some reponds regarding this brand of oil first. its made in france.. anyone have info on this brand of oil? thx

well...my fault for not doing more research on this oil, it seems that this oil is good stuff...i bought it for $9 a pop... the brand is MOTUL not MOTOL, my spelling error. i will use this oil when i buy my oil filter...thx for all the help

 

MOTUL is the BEST Engine oil you can get. But the true best is MOTUL 300V, which is regarded as a racing engine oil, but you would have no problem for putting it in Z's engine. It is somewhere $22 for 2 liter (a little more than 2 quart) so about $11 for a quart. (Z takes about 4 and half quarts). I'm not sure which MOTUL you got, (There are lower grades MOTUL oils such as 8100 or 6100, but heard that they don't make a great difference from other synthetic oils such as Mobil1, or redline or whatsoever) But 300V makes a noticeable difference. (Haven't used them yet but heard so many stories). When winter goes away next spring, I'll try MOTUL 300V 10W-40 and see it for myself.
Anyway, MOTUL is a great brand. You won't go wrong with it.
