Default need help with ignition coils

OK today we were in the middle of some basic overhauls new oil tranny fluid diff fluid etc spark plugs

when changing out the spark when screwing the ignition coil back in the bolt snapped and of course is not stuck completely flush and will probably have to drill and tap it out. while pulling out the last spark plug the plug came out completely covered in oil as well the socket as the ignition coil came out in one piece but it wasn't giving that vibration when u shake it like the other coils had sort of like when u shake a light bulb u can feel the coil inside vibrate.

so i tap but the screw wasn't long enough but we wanted to see if the motor was still so my buddy was holding in the coil to make sure that it wasn't going anywhere(this is before we confirmed the other coil was broken and came out in two pieces) so when we start it up it was spitting like crazy running really rich

everything was connected properly i assure you

so i pulled out the suspect coil and of course it comes out in two pieces

so while i figure out where im gonna get a new coil from
do you think the issue was the coil and how would u explain the oil on the socket and spark plug as or is it something worse

Replace the coil, they are cheap, should fix your issue. Get it from an autoparts store. It's just as good, and you won't pay dealer markup. Be carefull drillign and tapping where you are. Your valve cover is plastic i believe. And the part that you snapped the bolt off into is only an insert.

There is a gasket (O-Ring) where your valve cover seals to the head. Those gaskets keep oil from seeping into the spark pluge tubes. You need to replace them. You might as well buy a whole valve cover gasket set since you are gonna need to replace the valve cover gasket when you remove your valve cover to chance the sparkplug tube gasket.

actually, be careful with the aftermarket coils - they are not "just as good" - the genuine Nissan ones, or the ones by the OEM maker, are your best bets, without question.

the OEM coils are 2 pieces...the tube screws into the coil pack at the top

the gasket at the coil is not replaceable, as it is part of the cover - if its leaking, you will need to purchase a new valvecover. The side seal to the head keeps oil from leaking down the head and block (keeps the oil in the top of the head) - has nothing to do with the spark plugs/coils

Yeah, I'm with Adam on the valve cover deal. However the valve cover is quite expensive (for what it is) at $200 per side. I had the same problem with oil getting into one of the spark plug tubes and I decided to use RTV sealant on the grommet/tube gasket and it has held up ok. On the aftermarket coils, to each their own. I would imgine the aftermarket version would be ok, but they are a pain to change so it might be a good idea to go with the OEM part.

it does stink that the valvecovers are so expensive...especially for being plastic and nothing really special

for the coils, we offer the ones by the OEM maker for Nissan, and they are alot less than the dealer cost I would be even comparably priced to the ones at various autoparts stores

Ideally, no. If your seals leak I woulrd replace those they are reasonably priced. However sometimes I use a little sealant to hold the seal to the cover, kinda like an adhesive.
