Stereotypical to some degree yes. I'm in my last year of college and before the Z i drove an old beater. Its ok, mommy and daddy didn't pay for it and hopefully I wont have to live on spray cheese and ramen noodles. I should've rephrased my original statement though, in no way am I broke or is it really affecting my budget. It sounded a little dramatic to say breakin the bank. Anyhow the answer to my question being 2500-3000 sounds good.

Oh yea and most long islanders do drive like a-holes riding right up your *** or cutting you off-but im not one of em

Sorry buddy, but if gas usage/prices are effecting you enough to get on a public forum and ask fpr tips on how to drive your sports car like a Geo Metro, then it is must be hitting home pretty bad.

Your thread speaks for itself. Sell the Z, or buy an econo-box. Either way you win!

ormaybe he has a problem with the gas pedel , my previous cars had a simalr issue ..... thye had on/off switches instead !
seriously though getting that on th street means your razzing it all the time whihc leads to 1)living at the gas station and skint and 2) chances of loosing licence
peronally i couldnt hack that mpg even if it was free , 15mpg equates to what 220 or miles before you fill up adn that only becuase we got monster tanks !

I mean really if it was 15 then it's what ever, but how in the hell do I manage upper 12's mpg? Unless... I am going according to the avg mpg gauge, maybe I have to reset it? Eh whatever, next time i'll do the actual math to see.

You should reset the gage after every tank. You're bound to be getting better than 12 or something is bolloxed. Worst I've seen is 15-16 and that is really flogging it.

simple to see if your either revving it to death or got somthing wrong .. how far before the warning light comes on ? fill up then see how much.
getting 12mpg then running reallly low is like 17gal so thats 214 miles and the gguage is gonna 0 left , that about right ?

all joking and decision making aside, there are lots of good and real tips here to improve mpg. i think throttle control and looking ahead/anticipation are huge. like the one article says, accelerate smoothly, but dont go hammer down. ease onto the throttle, avoid going past 1/2 open, and shift to neutral and coast to lights when they turn red. use the highest gear practical. shift around 3K. there is no reason that in normal suburban mixed driving a stock 6MT Z can't make 20-22mpg.

i haven't done the precise math, but even with twins i can make about 20mpg in mixed driving. if i want to save gas, i make a game out of keeping the "boost" in vacuum.

yeah true but even with the reflash and better exhaust flow, i think the car is quicker and more responsive off boost than it was when it was stock...

when i want to remember what NA really feels like i just drive my beater 2000 2.5 I4 ford ranger. i think i tried to time a 0-60 run once in it, i stopped counting mississippis after 12......

uprev can also decrease your mpg, it all depends on how your car was running before. Also try to remember a tune is supposed to maximize how your car performs... aka not good for fuel consumption and good for performance.
