Default What is the LIMIT of the 350?

Does anyone have any idea of the Limit of stock internals for forced induction?
What is the most HP achieved?
I realize this is a simplified question that has many variables.
I ask because I am considering purchasing either another Supra or the 350Z.
I know the engine is not as strong as the Supra's (no flames intended) but I'm sure it will stand up to some abuse.
Thanks

dont assume the supra engine is that much stronger. It was intended as a forced induction fed motor and thus has components built in that category. If you really wnat to compare the vq to a supra compare it to the 220 hp non turbo motor which it easily spanks.

the limits to the vq depend on how much money your willing to spend really. As a turbo motor you will see people pulling upwards of 800 hp certainly, it just might be a few years, and most of the factory components will need to be replaced. Plus it has the advantage of being a 3.5 l displacement which always helps too

just my $0.02

The NA Supra motor is basically the same engine minus some additional gadgits (under piston oiling etc..) It has the same power potential if turboed. Stock internals 800+ RWHP. This has been proven many times. The VQ engine and the 2jz-GTE are not comparable. Like I said no flames intended. I have owned 2 MKIV supras, the last one had over 500 RWHP without opening up the engine. I am considering a 350, I just want to know at what point would I have to open up the engine and start replacing stuff. You can almost never reach that point with a Supra unless you want more than 1000HP. I'm sure the VQ is a more "advanced" engine. It makes great power for an NA but I want A LOT more than 380 RWHP.

PS
Here is a nice article about a NA to turbo conversion for the Supra.

Well if you conside the 350Z running on nitrous was holding well with a 300 shot. I know it's not the same as boost, but in was it is.

It is under racing, the z with the lowest 1/4 mile times, and I have had the chance to ride in a z with a 200 shot what a hoot!

to answer your question I would agree on 450rwhp, but nitrous boy was running over 550rwhp till it blew up. I don't know why people are so concern with it because 450 rwhp is a lot for a streetable car. As for the supra with all that power it can produce, its still a heavey pig. My budies 550rwhp supra could not beat my turbo eclipse which was maybe pushing 350rwhp in the 1/4. so it depends on what your looking for. don't get me wrong hp numbers are impressive but I would like to see what it does on the track. Supras shine on highway not tracks in general. So strange its all up to what you want.

I disagree about the weight of the supra. It's about 150 lbs heavier than a 350z. But 150 lbs is 150 lbs. When I raced SCCA the fastest cars in my class were an RX7, Supra and C5 Corvette. I have owned lighter cars such as the RX7, Integra GSR, CRX SI, MR2 turbo etc... In order of fun to drive the Supra was second just behind the RX7. What is your opinion of the 350Z on the track? I guess I am looking for an all around comparison.

you'll probably get one answer on a 350z board and another on the supra board. Might not help with the confusion...at least they're both great cars.

Yeah... we DID have some fun didn't we???

Smithtown Nissan when it blew up was running a 375 single stage.

COUNTLESS Zs are running 200-250 without any problems.

So the engine blew at like 600 rwhp, that should be expected from what we have seen with other companies mods. When you say the engine blew, what do you mean? Are we just talking rods here?

The 350z I thought had great handling out of the box. Add some mods and I would say its up there with the RX-7. A very fun car to drive, but I am a turbo guy so its a matter a time for me till I get more power

Looks!!
I think the 350 is one of the best looking cars to come out since the RX7 in 93 or the Supra with about 2k in body mods.

spazpilot

Have fun with that turbo! I'm with you on being a "turbo guy". I'm just trying to figure out if I can make the 350 what I want with a reasonable amount of money. (10k or so)

how much money you got?

replace most of the internals and Im sure you could spank a supra, newer tech in the engine. but it wont come cheap, the supra is bulletproof from the factory, but its no secret that it weighs a ton as a result.
