Default Pathfinder Cooling mod : explain ?

Before everyone jumps on the camels back : Yes Ive search.

What im trying to figure out is how does it extactly cool the rear of the block if the coolant sits in the pocket ?

^^ it seem where it bolts to water just sits in that pocket , the casting for the FWD / RWD and the VQ30DE-K are the same.

It doesnt recirculated thru the system ?

So can anyone explain the theory behind this ?

Has any of you guys that are running boost or track had overheating issues ?

Ive been reading back and fourth the whole week on how does it work, Even looking at my block now I dont see how it cools it.
Yes the Pathy has it but so does the DE-K

Can someone explain this as Ive brought up this dissucssion on the Maxima Fourms.

The VQ30DE-K and Pathfinder seems to share the same coolant pipe with the t stat, and bolts into the block.

I was thinking of drilling the side walls thru to the cyclinder walls/sleeve area so that the coolant can recirculated around the sleeves.

What do you guys think ?

With OE Z motor there is no direct water outlet from the cylinder block.

Water is circulated by the water pump from block through the small slots in the head gasket & into the cylinder heads where it then exits through the aprox 1.25" outlets in the rear of each cylinder head.

Nissan engineers have identified rear cylinder or cylinder head o'heating in the Pathfinder under certain conditions & have fitted this extra block outlet to allow aditional flow (or maybe to stop local o'heating around the rear combustion chambers) to occur above 190deg.

The overall min operating temps are still maintained by the existing front of block thermostat.

Just checked your post on the Maxima site.
There is no need to drill or cut anything.
If you look hard at the photo of the block, about where the green spot is & where your red mark is you can see that there is an opening already there from open deck on the 2 rear cylinders to the pocket area.

that picture was for a RWD , i have the bare block at the shop right now and there no holes at all what so ever,

if you drill a hole there , that pass thru the oil journal.

im just still puzzle on "how it cools" the rear but I may get a hold of a DE-K pipe and just go with it with my build
