Default Shift linkage problem!

Alright guys, I searched and found one thread that sort of helped. Just wanted to get some extra feedback before I start doing what the other thread posted.

So I took my car into the dealer to get body work done. (Shouldn't of done this in the first place.) When I left today the shifter felt really loose like when you are in manual in a normal shifting car you can only go side to side with the clutch not kicked in. However, when I picked up the car today you could make a complete circle with the shifter.

Second thing is that I noticed 1, 2, 3 & 4th gear were shifting in normally however, all these gears, when engaged, were sitting in the neutral position. (This is while driving BTW).

Now 5th, 6th and reverse are a diff story. I could not shift into 5th gear without going into 3rd.. In order for me to shift into 5th I would have to slam the shifter all the way to the right, slightly down and up to where 5th should b. 6th was fine to shift into. Reverse felt very loose to shift into and as the car drives in reverse the shifter moves like it wants to go back to neutral and disengage.

Every single gear moves back into the neutral position when engaged instead of the normal angled positions that they should be in.

I don't want to say which thread I looked at yet cause I want to see if you guys have the same thoughts as the other thread.

Thanks in advance! Never will I again go to the dealer for anything!

Um... you should probably take it right back to the dealer that f'ed it up and have them fix it, before you damage the car.

What he said ^^ My question to the dealer would be why anything to do with the transmission was even touched. Body work last time I checked involved those shiny things (or maybe not so shiny if you need body work) on the outside of your car.

So the shifter was operating normally prior to the body shop?

I hate the F'n dealer. I NEVER take my car in unless it's absolutely something i can't do myself (such as bodywork). But when i do, $hit like this always happens to me too!!

Yea man!

I never take my car to the dealer either, but with this I had to. Insurance was giving me a hard time, like they do with everyone and I didn't feel like arguing that day so I gave in. Never again!

Well if you don't feel like arguing with them then just pay the money. However if you want them to do what you're proposing then you have to actually argue.

Got a free diagnostic test from nissan.. Anyway they said the problem was that the bolt on the shifter where the ball joint is was loose. They asked me if I wanted to pay for it so I said no. Came home took the shifter boot off and located the bolt. Tightened it up and car shifts perfect again. It's amazing how the smallest thing can cause such a big problem.
