Default Stillen SC at 7 pounds. installing intercooler

About 2 weeks ago I wrote an email to Steve Millen explaining how infuriated I was at the company. I explained the lack of customer service and how his product was damaging my car. My SC is making my Z ping in hotter temps (anything over 75 degrees, which is often here in So Cal).

Steve Millen called me and apologized and said that the prototype intercooler is ready and they would like to try it on my car. Well now Stillen has my car, dropped it of yesterday. I will be getting it back on Friday with a new flywheel, intercooler, pulleys and boost will be at 7 pounds.

I will keep all informed as to the difference after these mods.

Hope everything works out for the better. Looks like Stillen stepped up and hopefully they do this for every Z that has the blower.

at least they stepped up to help. Keep us posted. The intercooled air combined with 1 extra pound of boost should definitely make a difference.

The pinging you described has me concerned though. How many times has this happened? What types of plugs are you running (are they colder?)

Sweet, hope it all works out well. If this goes well it could sway people in the direction of Stillen.

You know of course we want impressions, dyno, pics and maybe even some vids.

skk100/Sam:

I am very interested in knowing the new hp thus dyno would be helpful. Maybe we can get that in December when we meet if Stillen is not doing it this week? I hope they are dynoing this week for you and if so, please give us results.

Are you sure that you are maintaining the warranty with the added boost? How much is the intercooler costing you?

This pinging you are getting is a red flag if i ever saw one. I hope this solves your problem. We dont need another burnt piston.

If the added boost increases the hp significantly and the intercooler reduces the temp related problems, then maybe Stillen will become a bigger player in the aftermarket FI competition. I have always felt that Stillens warranty on the motor as well as the SC unit was a big plus compared to others that do not offer that option. Now, with added boost/hp, it could be a significant improvement.

Good luck, keep us posted.

wow. you lucked out with Steve Millen... i'm surprised he contacted you back...

did you have to pay for the parts? or was this a deal that he cut out with you?

well as for the ping: what brand gas are you filling up with?

Buddy of mine, has a contact a Stillen rumor is that a Intercooled Stillen Blower with a 7psi pulley system does 343 rwhp and 352rwtq in prototype mode on a stock Z

Now with headers and exhaust expect more!

Thats pretty good and safe!

I got original e-mail from the Stillen Tech if ya wanna see. I will delete his name off the mail

I always use chevron, shell, or mobil, super unleaded - 91 octane. Steve did cut a deal with me although I am still paying for parts at a reduced rate. THe added boost does of course VOID the warranty. I am not sure if they will dyno it but I will ask. I am really excited to find out how this thing works.

400hp? 343 whp sounds about right then. Marketers and salespeople will always go with the more impressive number when throwing numbers around.

Yeah so 400 hp and 343 whp. I am also getting their flywheel installed. I already have the Stillen exhaust. I dont know what the finished product will be but I was impressed that Steve Millen called me at 8am the next morning and wanted to fix the problem. I believe Steve doesn't always know exactly what the problems are and of course he wants to run a profitable business and keep customers happy. It's just a matter of letting him know.

Hopefully with these mods the Stillen will compete against the ATI. In December all will know once we do the Sport Z magazine test.

I really want to find out times now for my car.
THe HP comes on early with the Stillen, the ATI doesnt come on strong from the start. I wonder how this factors into 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times.

I see... so for an avg Stillen customer, do you think they would get the 8am phone call & service from Mr. Millen himself?

I dont know about getting that kind of attention but i can say one thing. Steve Millen did come out and take a look at my car when I first brought it into them about 2 months ago for my initial pinging problem. He told me the problem would be fixed. He remembers me from that time. He thought the problem was resolved and didnt realize that it was still pinging. So as far as getting special treatment I believe everyone would since he knows he is competing and losing the challenge against ATI. I know he monitors these posts or at least his R and D team does.

But who knows. All i want is to get what I was promised from Stillen.

Skk100, aren't you the one who said if it didn't work you were going to throw it through Stillen's window?

Man, I was looking forward to that vid.
