clutch pivot ball failure rate on CD009
im getting my trans warrantied and im putting in a spec stg 1 clutch. i searched and found lots of threads on failures of the pivot ball on 03 trans with the longer pivot ball. It didnt appear like theres as many failures with the shortened PB, but is that truely the case? is it necessary to rpl it with any aftermarket clutch with the CD009 trans?

WOW...wish I new about this before. The pivot ball on my 2003 tranny just snapped yesterday. At first I thought the soft clutch line blew again. Guess I have to take down the tranny, drill out the old stud that broke, and install a new one.
Or, just replace the tranny. My syncros are going. Decisions, decisions.

Well if your good at bargaining with the sales rep at the nissan dealership then you can get the price lowered on the CD009. But if you just buy it with the normal price online or whereever then it's around $2000. I got mine for $1600 which is why I can say what I did. As far as the pivotball issue all versions of the transmission have had pivotball failure that i have read before. Hardly the CD009 reason being mostly new cars have that model transmission and havent put enough run time on the pivotball. It snaps primarily from harsh shifting (not rev matching when downshifting) which jerks all types of s**t everywhere wearing it down at a more rapid pace. Get the reinforced stainless steel pivotball to solve this issue. Yes you have to take down the transmission to replace it but better to do it now then when your pivotball snaps and you have to get towed or you have to hardshift (without clutch) and possibly grind out some gears leading to getting a new transmission. If you have an 03 and you or the dealership haven't touched the transmission then you have the longer pivot ball with the lighter/thinner clutch arm. 04+ years with the revised transmissions have the shorter pivotball with the heavier/thicker clutch arm. The CD009 actually fixed the syncro gear issue and beefed up the gears some more. The other versions probably didn't change anything but the clutch arm and pivotball.
when you get warranty work they will installed the newest edition of any part. They don't even make the cd006 anymore. It was updated by the manufacturer to cd009 so now all you can get is a cd009. Do you honestly think the factory is continueing to put out 9 revisions of the transmission when they have known issues on the previous revisions? no
and btw, full built engine, cd009 trans, os giken twin disk. Car sees track time. it's been 2 years with the cd009 and 30k. replaced mid 40k on the car and now i have 77k on the car. Not any issues with broken clutch pivots.
iirc from my invoice the clutch pivot arm is actually changed when they put the new trans in. The cd001 pivot ball is different than the one needed for the cd009 so they replace it.
so stupid question. if you have an 03 can you replace it with the 04+ parts as per JWT info table.

I was driving my '03 about 3 years ago and as i came to a stoplight, i noticed i couldn't push in the clutch. Luckily, I've lived in Kennesaw/Marietta most my life, so i was just down the street from Forged. I was told it was the Clutch Fork Pivot Bolt. Sharif himself told me that he had heard of it happening alot on the 300ZX, but not the 350Z.
In any case, $1,300 later, i was back on the road. (new clutch, gear and rear diff oil.)
