Default ATF change DIY or dealership?

I have an 06 auto with 46k miles. I have an appointment at Nissan for ATF drain and fill for $100. I mentioned to my friend about it, he said save some money and he'll do it for me i just need to buy the fluid. He's going to use one of those siphon thingy feed the hose through the feeding tube down to the bottom of the pan. He did it on his old friends 350Z, with these procedure he got 5qts of old the fluid and replaced with the same amount. If i go with these i will save $70 and have the same result. Whats your opinion guys?

Do you trust your "friend"... Do you need the extra money? Ask those questions to yourself instead

i do trust him and money is not the issue here. If i could do the work myself and save money why not right and have the same result. I like workin on my car and learning something new is always nice.
What other things will do me good beside avoding the hassle bringing my car to nissan to do this job? i guess my friends idea will have the same results as nissan , idk id like to give it a try.

Next week, I'm taking my G coupe to Nissan to do a complete ATF flush and fill with j-matic fluid. They are charging me $230... I think it'd be work the extra $100+ (depending on your dealership) to get your tranny completely flushed.

flush really isnt that necessary unless the maintenance has been lacking... drain and fill every 60k is good... FI then 30k... if it is over 100k with original fluid and its dark and burnt... just leave in the same fluid... youll flush out what is holding it together

Just get some Amsoil and change it at home, simple and easy.

Yes really. And do it yourself. Drop the old ATF out of the drain on the pan into (2) 1-gallon milk cartons that have the tops cut off. Set them on a level surface, sharpie the level on both containers, dump the old and fill up the new in the same bottles using the sharpie marks as a guide. Dump that down the dipstick hole and carry on with your life. I change mine every 5k and have the piece of mind of knowing when I go FI this summer, my tansgo kit and a cooler will be all I need to reliably boost because the fluid was never given a chance to break down. YMMV as I live in AZ and it gets to 115 in the summer here and she's my daily. People in a more temperate climate may be able to feel safe going longer. Personal choice I suppose.

You guys should buy 5 qts just in case, but I'd be amazed if you got a full 4 out. I can never get more than 3.5 - 3.75 qts out without using the lift at the shop to lift the front end of the car up to pull some of the fluid to the drain plug. Very simple job as long as you don't spill any. Then you play the guessing game
