Default any difference on tranny internals?

I'm hoping to get a quick response on this question. Is there a difference on the internals of the 2003 and 2004 transmissions? I've heard that they upgraded the internals for the 2004+ as a fix to the 2003 rash. I would also like to know where you got your info. I've been searching all day for official specs but no luck. Also, the reason why I ask is cause I just bought a tranny from a guy who told me is from a 2004 , when I looked up the vin # on the tranny, it says it comes from an 2003. When i told him he's a liar he said that the internals are the same when I was always under the impression that most 04 trannys have upgraded internals.

I have had 5 tyranny's in my 2004. 3 had bad 3rd gear synchronizers and one locked up in 5th gear.

What is most important, is that you get one that is CD009 or greater. CD001 - CD008 are junk. I am not sure what year they created the CD009 . . . but you will be wasting your time and money if you get anything less.

^ +1, the year isn't as important as the edition of the transmission, you want to check to see if its a CD009, if not it doesn't make a difference if its from an 03 or 04 both will potentially have the same problems if not already.

Also I don't know what you mean by internals, but the only changes made to the newer transmissions is the synchro design. The gears and everything else is the same.

Sorry to thread jack but does anyone have whole part number for the most recently revised CD009 tranny?

My 2005 Z has the 2nd,3rd and 5th gear grinding/ sychro problem and It'll probably help me argue with the dealerships if i have the full part number of the tranny.

CD009 has more durable gears than the previous models and extra sycro gears and those are improved as well. Over all like it was stated before its either the CD009 or nothing. They "fixed" all the problems with the 2,3,5 gears grinding due to the syncro gears. Any other questions read my posts on other threads....also you guys should use the search option....

Yes.

For what it's worth though . . . . the stock flywheel, clutch and pressure plate allows for more slippage than an aftermarket one. The stock flywheel is actually two pieces. The friction area is separated to the outer rim and is "buffered" with springs. This system acts as a shock absorber and creates smoother engagements.

well first off the CD009 transmission by itself doesn't include a clutch, flywheel, pressure plate combo with it. Those parts attach to your block and the trasmission slides through them when installed. Like he said about the dampener on the stock flywheels they are two pieces for a reason. Primarily the dampener is used to reduce the friction/vibration of the driveline and prevent/dampen the noise the vibrations make. Which is why when people buy aftermarket flywheels that are half of the stock weight they hear grinding noises from the transmission (from the heafty gears) due to the dampener not being used on aftermarket flywheels.
If you have a OEM flywheel/clutch/pressure plate combo and you want to put in a CD009 transmission then it's perfectly fine.
