Default Auto and 6-Speed LSD interchange and gearing

I have been doing a bit of searching but have not been able to come up with the info I am looking for. I am a Subaru guy and not around this forum much so please don't be too harsh and feel free to point me to a thread if I may have missed it.

I am helping a buddy swap a stock LSD into his open diff 08 6-Speed 350z.

From my interchange catalog I see it pops up that older LSDs will swap in.

My questions are:

Are the Auto and Manual LSD diff's interchangable?
Can we swap the whole pumpkin with the stubs or will stuff need to be moved around?
Are there different gearing changes across the years and between manual and auto?
Is there any maintenance recommended other than fluid change before swapping in the LSD diff?

Thanks guys

No, they are different.

Yes, you can swap pumpkins without swapping any other parts.
Are there different gearing changes across the years and between manual and auto?
Auto gears are 3.3 and manual gears are 3.5. The ratio's are the same for all years of 350's.
Is there any maintenance recommended other than fluid change before swapping in the LSD diff?
No, the vlsd is a sealed unit.

Thanks guys

From what I have been reading, most of the 6MT G35 and 350Z diffs are the same. My part interchange lookup confirms this as well.

While I was looking around I found out that the 07-08 G35 Sedan 6MT has an LSD with a 3.692 ratio.

This would be ideal as it would allow us to kill two birds with one stone (Add LSD, Shorter Gearing) all at once.

Has anyone done this swap?

First of all, don't bother with the VLSD, its 5% better than an open diff and has a real short life span when overheated.

I don't know what the 07-08 G sedan has in it, it may be the newer chassis like the 370 and G37. If thats the case, it won't fit.

Thanks for the info. My track of thinking was to pickup the OEM VLSD and use it as well as have an easier upgrade path since it seems there are a lot more aftermarket LSDs available to go into the the VLSD unit compared to the base open unit. I also noticed that G35 diff and figured I would get the better gearing for very little extra cost.

The car will stay N/A. The LSD is mainly to aid in spirited street driving, with occasional mountain runs and autox events. What are your recommendations?

Quaife would probably be just great, gearing, well IMO the stock gearing is fine. I've been running mine on the track with stock gearing for 3 years now. its actually pretty good. Wel have plenty of torque and a wide powerband.

Question on this. I know the the two have different FD but are the actual cases and stubs the same on the MT and AT VLSD pumpkins?

We ended up using an 08 G35 3.692 VLSD. More info in this thread https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...ml#post8434106
