Underside of cilinder damaged?
Hey guys,
I'm taking apart a damaged engine (bearing damage probably) as a learningproject and also to maybe one day rebuild if the cilinderblock and heads are rebuildable..
Today I took off the upper oilpan and when I looked at the cilinders and pistons (from below) I was surprised to find that the underside of two cilinders have chips.
I put my finger in there to feel the cilinder wall and as far as I can tell it's only chips from the edge. The cilinder wall below it feels smooth.
These are the best pictures I could make:
Has anyone ever seen this before and can someone tell me how this happened?
Does this mean this cilinderblock is a write off?
Thnx,
Reinier
