I just got my diff installed last week and drove this weekend with no ABC. I thought it was my tire stagger causing it (275/40 square) could still be , but will pulling my subframe last night to install the subframe bushings i noticed both of my stub shafts are pulled out about 1/2 inch. I pushed them back in and within a 1/2 hour of sitting, they would slide back out. I'm going to yank them both out tonight anlook around, but does anyone have insight? I was told there is only a snapring on one side, is that true? What side?
The diff is an OS Giken superlock, and installed in an 05 base pumpkin.

Well i'm pulling the rear end back out of the car tonight and it goes back to the driveline shop in the morning. What a PITA this is causing, and i still havn't got my ride height set for the time attack.
i've seen a few hack shops/techs pull out the retainer ring on the end of the stub to ease install. or leave the old one on--even more common.
i would pull out the stub and make sure they are there and not damaged.
that or the os might not have a machined part for the ring to sit in.

Well just got the stub shafts out, i didn't pull the diff after i found there are no snap rings installed on the stub shafts.
Looks like the shop messed up, and they build all the race rear ends in the vegas valley.

Well the rings are out , and they don't work in ther OS unit. The OS unit in the second ring groove where the ring installed is not machined enough to fit the OEM c clips. Either i was supposed to have different clips that didn't come with my OS unit or OS fcuked up.

Talked to OK today and their are two different short stub shafts, the ones i have and the ones i need. Mine are tapered and work with the diff that has the retaining rings in it, the others are flat and the retaining rings on them.
I have a local machine shop going to mod mine to accept the c clips, now i just need the measurments.

Well i have a local drive line shop that going to try machine my stub axles to accept the C clips needed from the proper stubs. This should work, if it does it will same me from buying the proper stubs for $140 each. Fingers are crossed.
They did today, but the info just wasn't around. Z1 and all others who sell this diff do not have the info on their site. I don't fault anyone but OS for this, they could have it at least in the notes on their site.

This is the blurb from our site:
http://z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?model...ne&prodid=3489
"2006-2008 owners, please contact us with your VIN number so we can determine the proper installation parts required, as they vary from car to car."
Again, this is not an issue on 2003-2005 BASE model cars at all (and even some 2006's too). They all use the same 'old' style shaft on the one side. Only the later cars use the 'newer' shaft. Why they changed it, who knows. Nissan does weird stuff sometimes!

I've noticed a few times. The pics and the difference between the two stub shafts for others to see. Like mentioned the diff i have, i took it out of my wifes 05 base and gave her my VLSD. Figured it would be cheaper than way. Seems like i was wrong.
The second one is what i need to modify mine to. Should invole just a slight trim.

Hers is 05 base, no cruise, was definatly an open diff and mine is an 03 touring, would have to look for her production date when she gets home from work.

I'll post pics tonight, i had my tapered stub shafts cut to accept the different retaining ring. I have one installed, and ran out of time before work. Quick and easy to do for any machine shop, cost me a 12 pack. The i also have the correct part numbers for the rings you need to order from Nissan if thats the case.
