Default OS giken install, HELP?

I'm installing the OS Giken LSD into my base. I got a new flange that I was told I'd need and I think I'm ready to roll. BUT, can I re-use the bearings from the old diff? Press them off and back on the new LSD. Thoughts?

How many miles are on your car? Its reccomended that if your car has 20k+ then you should just change them.

I have access to a lift as long as I need it so not too big of a deal. The car has just over 20k. They look great, spin freely with no noise. Tempting...

Thanks for the advice guys!

IMO something as simple as just buying new seals and bearings (which I did) to eliminate possible premature failure is worth it.

off topic: I remember when I got my 4x4 4Runner re-geared the kit my gears came with had new bearings. We tried to press the new ones off but they exploded lol. We ended up using the original bearings and I haven't had an issue for the last 40k miles

I just did an OS Giken Super-lock install 2 weeks ago. If you want to reuse your bearings you'll need a large bearing separator and at minimum a 10 ton press. I picked this one up at HF and it did the job perfectly (http://www.harborfreight.com/large-b...ator-3979.html). There is a bit of a trick that you may need to do w/ 4 equally length 3/8 bolts to brace the separator against the base of the press, but I think it all depends on what type of separator and press you have. I tried using a gear puller rated for 5 tons but it couldn't cut it.

I still had the original open diff from my '07. It had less than 200 miles on it when I swapped it out w/ a VLSD pumpkin. I reused the bearings and kept the oil seals. Bearings were $73 each from my local dealership w/ a 5 day lead time.

Also, I ran into a problem w/ the stub axles. I called up OS to verify. If have an mid-05 or newer Z, the stub axles on the open diff are the incorrect ones intended for the current Super-lock. They are the tapered ends. You want the flat ended stub-axles that retain the C-clip on it's shaft. The distributor didn't know this and I ended up buying it. I was able to reuse one stub axle (driver's side) from my VLSD and machined a slot to hold a retaining clip.

Just replace the bearings, simple and worth it.
