Mercedes-Benz Engines In the Next Nissan Z?
Imagine a 500-bhp AMG Z? It’s in the realm of possibility.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I would be horribly disappointed if Mercedes motors made it into the Z. The VQ is a very high tech motor with tons of brilliant engine tricks. They are more advanced than many people give them credit for. The details in the block and rotating assembly are quite advanced and not commonly seen in other motors that cost more than double.
I have not been impressed by a mercedes engine after the late 90's. They aren't that well built nor are they high tech. A few AMG engines were quite good overall (Kompressor 5.5s are fun), but in general they're fairly low-tech and conservatively built. No earth shattering technology in those engines. Sure, they make power, but they just don't have that "excitement" that other high end euro cars have. I just don't see this being a great choice for a Z car. I think Nissan took a great step with the new 370z and its attempts at reducing weight to improve overall performance. You can kiss those efforts goodbye if Mercedes has a hand in the build.
Again, IMO

More likely for use in the infiniti line. I wouldnt mind seeing a 500hp z. Hopefully it will still start at 28k haha

I agree. Just because a mag reports rumors (or murmurs as they call them) don't make it so. I'm still waiting for the announcement from Nissan about the hybrid Z that several "sources" reported over a year ago.
