$325 + shipping isn't that bad. That oil cooler is small though. Nice setup for an N/A vehicle.

That's basically the same parts used in the two DIY threads here that I linked to back in Post #2.

I'm guessing that's not a thermostatically controlled sandwich plate. Still, that's a crazy cheap price when you look at what the individual pieces normally run.

Have either of you had any leaks with the cooler mounted vertically? and when you change your oil is it required disconnect and drain the cooler as well?

leaks?? you shouldn't have any leaks no matter how you mount the cooler. I used all the proper connections and so far 2 weeks of zero leaks or trouble. since it's mounted vertically and above my oil filter when i remove my oil filter the oil from teh cooler will drain from the bottom line out of the sandwich plate. No issues with changing the oil at all. Another reason i chose to mount it that way.

meh... you are focusing on the wrong thing Dave ....a thermostatically controlled sandwich plate will only open up the path to the oil cooler once oil has reached ...errr aroudn ~179º.... so the only issue is if you were driving in cool temperatures, winters(when most dont drive their Zs)...in cooler climates or seasons, you can either cover the cooler, or simply warm it up a bit longer to attain those conditions.......and this is more in orm naturally aspired engine cases(you would only need it n/a if you are autocrossing)....

So FI... it makes sense to get the cooler most of the time anyways... so thats why i say its not as big a deal....if you were using it in your Explorer/Titan/Van that you drive in the winter, then yah.
You are right it is a great price.

Not true with my Mocal (P/N MOC-SP1FT), it allows enough flow at sub 180F to noticeably heat up the lines and cooler at maybe around 120F. At 180F it is fully open. It was confirmed at the 370Z site with a call to Mocal that it doesn't ever fully close. Sorry don't have the url handy. Your are correct though, you can cover it up to help with cold conditions. This may not be true w/ other thermo sandwich plates however.

Anyone know if http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p...Sandwich_Plate 20mm sandwich plate works with the OEM filter?

I just pieced together a kit and want to make sure I have a filter that fits.

Yes, that plate works with the standard filter. That is my current configuration.

I just got my parts in and the oil cooler is smaller then I expected.

The plate has a nice rubber gasket on oneside and the other side is flat where the oil filter screws to, I noticed a lot of pitting in the metal. The oil filters use rubber orings so I guess its fine but I did expect a very smooth surface.

Also when I do the install, should I prime the lines going to the oil cooler so they are not empty when I first fire the car up?

P.S this is the cooler I bought

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-21610ERL/

5x8.25x2

The GTM one is around 5x12?

Any reason to send it back for a bigger unit?

oh, bum deal jeffie. You should definitely get the wider one. It's the 41 series. It's 13" wide. If you look on earl's charts for thermal capacity going from the smaller one to the wider one you gain tons more heat dissipation than going with more rows. I think you have to double your rows of the small one to be close to that of half of the rows of the wider one.

You should just send it back to summit and get a 41610. Mine is only a 10row. It's the 41010. The chart on earl's website in their catalouge is really helpful for finding the one with the right heat dissipation for your application. I'm a 10 row medium width (4 series) and it keeps my temps under 200* when i'm full boost giving it hell and around 100* ambient temps. This is with a 6765. So that should be plenty for your PL kit.

Now you purchased a mocal plate and it's all pitted? Take some pics. I'm sure you could send it back and get it exchanged. Mine is a perfectly machined surface. There wasn't a single flaw in it. I would definitely exchange it. Sounds like you got a bad one.

ps: i like my 10 row but i'm waiting to find a larger one from earl's in the medium. The one i want is like 140$ so i'm gonna wait til amazon puts it on sale. I'll need it once i tune high boost on e85.

http://www.holley.com/EarlsCatalog/

page 62 has the coolers and sizes

page 122 has all the thermal capacities. Mine is 22800 btu's and works great. I would like to step it up to a 19row which would double my btu's for when i'm 25+ psi.
