NISMO Clutch & Flywheel -- Info help
Guys,
I need a new clutch and flywheel. I have searched this forum as well as others and I have made up my mind on going with the Nismo clutch & flywheel. It appears Nismo has less chatter than other aftermarket. Now questions:
1- is it true Nismo flywheel has less chatter than other aftermarket flywheel?
2 - Is there combo deal with Nismo? (Flywheel & Clutch)
3 - I need throw out barring... which one do I buy or is it universal? (Sorry for being a dumass)
4 - Do I need to get clutch cover (Pressure Plate) as well?
5 - What else do I need?
I have over 150K miles and still going strong... i dont need racing clutch. However, I would something with no chatter. I had ACT & Exedy and it suck ***!!!
Thanks for you help in advance~!

I would think some site may have one.buying a clutch comes with the plate.
ensure you have a clutch alignment tool - black plastic tool and that you align the clutch onto the torx 55 bits as its supposed to. there are two dots that need to line up.
Look at these pics....
The back of the flywheel has an "indicator hole/mark" that is supposed to line up with the DOT that is shown in "this" pic at the 12-O-clock position - its in-between the Torx T-55 hole locations.

The nismo flywheel does not chatter @ all. I have installed 2 of these and both guys were happy after they had drove my 03 with a 3 piece clutchmasters flywheel. it ratteled like you would not beleive.

The NISMO flywheel is discountinued by NISMO USA, it can only be special ordered from Japan
It tends to be quieter than many others because it's the heaviest of all the aftermarket units. Yes, it still makes some noise compared to stock, but it makes alot less noise than many of the other lightweight flywheels
as for no chattering, you have to define what you mean by that, as that term is thrown around alot and means different things to different people.
Clutch kits come with pressure plates, disks, and throw out bearings. If you've managed 150k miles on a stock clutch, why not just get another stock clutch?

I have the twin plate super copper mix from Japan it is a great clutch, next to no chatter. It came as a kit with clutch and fly wheel, I think it came with a new throw out bearing as well? Also its not a bad idea to change the pivot ball out to a hardened one at the same time. There have been a few reported failures of OEM ones, I did it just for peace of mind.

If you can no longer get the Nismo flywheel, the Exedy flywheel is very similar. In fact, my Nismo flywheel also had an Exedy logo etched on it. I guess it was produced for Nismo by Exedy, so I would expect the same quality. The Nismo pressure plate and disc did not come as a kit. I had to purchase them seperately. Since it isn't a kit, the release bearing and pilot shaft bushing were also seperate purchases. The Nismo clutch disc and pressure plates also had Valeo logos on them, so they were made by a different company.
The chatter isn't that bad. If you shift gears around 2000 rpm, you'll notice a difference in noise. At idle, outside the car, you can kinda hear it. A few times I've had people tell me there's something seriously wrong with my car. It doesn't really bother me, because I prefer performance over civility.

I was thinking about going back to stock as well but it appears more then after market product. I only wanted Nismo because member on the forum indicated that it has less noise compare to others. I dont need racing clutch. all i have is popcharger and this is my everyday car.
Can you recommend a brand that has least amount of chatter same or equal to stock, reliable, long lasting clutch that doesn't cost me over $1000?
I was not able to find the answer to the question above searching through every nissan 350z forums....
First, no one can tell you how long a clutch will last - it depends on how the driver treats it, how it's installed, etc. Does not matter if it is stock or aftermarket.
OEM clutch is inexpensive. OEM flywheel is very expensive as it is a dual mass unit. Aftermarket flywheels are single mass units. These can be made to varying degrees of weight, and the lighter they are, the noisier they are. Some level of additional noise is a natural byproduct of doing ANY flywheel. The aluminum based ones tend to be louder than the steel based ones, but they all make added noise vs stock.
The Exedy flywheel would be a good choice for you. It's among the heavier ones out there, and is 1 piece billet chromoly. Clutch wise, I like the Exedy Sport clutch, ACT heavy duty street, and JWT. All work well, hold significantly more torque than stock, and are easy to drive. Or, if you're not planning on any serious mods, a stock clutch can work just fine

i got the nismo clutch and flywheel, luckily a forum member head both of em for sale brand new and i jumped on it, hold my vortech charger up great and the chatter is very minimal. definitely much better than stock
I understand the fact that the wear of the clutch is base on how you drive. I was talking more of base line... for example if you put exedy vs nismo clutch to test which one would last in the same drive enviorment?
Since I put ACT light weight flywheel without research, I ended up with very annoying chatter for 2 years. I'm tryinig to get stock feel that cost less.
Everyone seems to have chatter noise at idle. I think this is due to throwouot barring but arguable... When you press down on the clutch it goes away. However, I have another crazy chatter starting to up to 2000rpm and I think this is due to light weight ACT flywheel.
After checking some pricing, you are right OEM flywheel cost over $800... but are you saying there isnt anything in the market that makes less noise than the stock flywheel?
If nismo doesnt make clutch anymore, does nismo flywheel work with other aftermarket clutchs? If so, what would be a good combo?
Sorry for the long questions and thanks in advance.

As I wrote above, NISMO does not make their flywheel anymore, at least for the US market. It can only be ordered via special order. Same goes for the pressure plate portion of the clutch. The disk can still be ordered (we have one in stock)
