low oil pressure?
searched the forums, and I know each car is different, but what should the norms be for oil pressure at idle, 30 mph, 60 mph, etc?
my car at warm idle is barely sitting at 15 psi. seems low to me?

so if 15 is minimum, what should normal be? i guess i'm just concerned about sitting at the "minimum". could just be overreacting...? but then again, you wouldn't want to be running at the minimum on say (oil, coolant, fluids, etc.)
I know I have written the exact same thing I'm about to write on the forum multiple times. I'll give you a break today though: Depending upon what oil you are using, a fully warm Z (on for 30 mins or so in semi-cold weather) Should have an idle psi between 20-30. Is 15 bad? No. 0 is bad. My personal car idles at just a tick under 30psi, but if I'm out beating on it for awhile pretty hard, or it's really hot outside (110+) then my idle psi is lower. After an auto-x I have seen it as low at 10-15psi, just because the oil is so thin. What oil are you running? How long since your last change? Oil level good? How many miles on car? Ever had the pressure sensor replaced? There are a variety of possibilities, but I wouldn't worry at 15psi idle in a Texas summer unless you're running 10w-40 or higher and still getting those numbers.

i know what your getting at, sometimes when i look at the guage it looks like theres no oil pressure, i noticed this is only right when im about due for an oil change, but to ansewer you question i beleive a little above 30psi is where its at after an fresh oil change, warm, at idle..like the other guy said mph dont matter its all about revs
i was always told oil pressure has nothing to do with the volume inside the pan, which i dont really understand cause the volume you would think would result in less pressure but i been reassured this is not the case, it does make me nervous even after being told

- 83,000 miles on the car
- been fully synthetic with Mobil 1 until Pennzoil Platinum came out (10w-30)
- I just had an oil change 2-3 weeks ago. Oil level looks good now.
- Never had the pressure sensor replaced (how do you know if it's bad?)
Again, may just be overreacting. Nothing seems to be wrong, but it's like going to the doc sometimes just to be sure everything's ok....
Sounds like you're fine. Once the car is fully warmed up, I see variation in idle oil pressure depending on what brand of oil I use. Mobil1 is a thin 30 weight and the oil pressure confirms it. My car idles around 15psi with it. When I use German Castrol which is a very heavy 30 weight, my idle pressure is more like 20psi. Readings will vary.
normal, and the indicator will display a lower psi with you run a low viscosity synthetic because synthetic takes less pressure to pump. you're getting flow, but it's not taking alot of force to do so hence the low pressure at idle
