I have an 06 Z that is about to go out of warranty. But before it does I thought I would take it to the dealer to have the rear axle clicking fixed. The dealer called me today and told me that they had a TSB about this (I already knew that) and he said to fix it would be $200. He said it was not covered by the warranty because it wasnt part of the power train. I thought the power train was anything between the motor (that the same dealer replaced last year due to O/C) and the drive tires. I asked him what would happen if I didnt get it fixed, he said "nothing it would just keep clicking". Is the rear axle not part of the power train? Will it hurt anything if I dont get it fixed? What should I do now? Thanks

But the question is: Is the rear axle part of the power train? Or they going to tell me its drive train? And that the drive train is only covered for 1 year/ 12K miles (thats what he told me today). What if I dont fix it, will it hurt anything in the long run?
Yeah, simple fix is go to another dealership. If you're under warranty and even if you're not, the right dealership should replace it no questions ask and free of charge. Those guys are obviously not going about earning your money the right way.
yes the rear axle is part of the power train. i had this last month and they tried. so i talked to the manager and complained and they fixed it asap. trust me they are just trying to make you run around and pay 200 bucks. they tried to make me pay 210 and said that was a discount and i was like "nope its still under warranty". like i said they tried bsing with me but i made sure they did their job. tell them that you'll call their corporate company to confirm their claim and watch them skirm.

warranty is "free" till it ends no matter how many times you come back. and beside according to the service manager they make money off of warranty stuff. dont know why they would always make excuses not to do it.. maybe they can make more off you than the corporate company perhaps?
dealerships are useless. i personally intend to help put them out of business...
if car makers were smart they'd go direct to buyers and cut out these IDIOT middlemen.
everyone is happy and the system is less flawed.
p2p or b2p that's it.
who is in????

When mine clicked, i called two dealerships and they said it's not underwarranty. fuking douchebags. I fixed it myself although it was pain in the **** to remove the axle from the hub.
We need to do something about those wrinkly old **** middlemen and women.

Go to another dealer. I have an 06 also and actually just got it fixed a couple weeks ago, under warranty (free). It is covered under the power train warranty (5yr 60k miles). The dealer was actually really cool about it, they ended up just doing both sides even though only the passenger side was clicking.

this happened to me a year or so ago. I went to two local dealerships regarding this. I also purchased the extended warranty in case anything big occured later down the line. (total watse of money) Both dealerships stated the same thing, because it is not a parts replacement but a parts adjustment standard warranty would not cover it and they wanted 200$!
I promptly told them to bring me back my car as i was plannng on fixing this myself anyway it's fairly easy to do.

most of us have gotten the problem fixed by DIYing or paying others to do it. so I don't think they would care anymore about us unless they would take our past experience with **** holes and make improvements by replacing them

I got my Z back today and I am now $200 poorer. I bitched and bitched but it didnt help. I guess I get to call Nissan tomorrow and see if I can get my money back. The owner of the dealership told that it wasnt covered because it was a service, not a repair. Really, you have to pull both axels out of a car to do service?? What ********!!!
Doucheb@gs. And dealers wonder why they have the reputations they do. Back in '88 I bought a brand-new BMW M3, and when the radiator started to leak from one of the seams at ~20K miles, the dealer didn't want to fix it because I had done all the oil changes myself. I filed a complaint with the FL State Attorney General, and after that I was always "Mister" or "Sir" whenever I showed up at the dealer.
