Well i been looking into gearing for a while now, been trying to see what gear ratio would suit my needs. I know a lot of people say for the HR the 4.08 gearing is perfect, and i even asked a forum member and he liked them but it wasn't his DD.
My car is a DD car and every once in a while i have to take some high way trips. Sense i know i don't want my car screaming at me i narrowed it down to the 3.7 and 3.9 fD ratio.
With all my mods the power band has shifted up and the cars low end doesn't feel as lively as stock HR Z. So this is were i mostly want to get back sense i do a lot of stop and goes and some high way travel.
Great thing if i get the 3.7, i could get a pumpkin with vlsd and gearing i want for under $500(used). Con: I may not notice that much of a difference Pro:For sure get the high way rpm in the area i want it at.
if i go with t he 3.9, i pretty sure i would feel it on the butt dyno. Con: No more spare pumpkin and maybe high on the rpm bad, also cost would be greater. Pro: Big smile :0), defiantly feel better acceleration on the lower rpm(under 2,500).
I kinda want a spare pumpkin because i plan put a lsd later on. Great thing is if i mess up the install on the 3.7 pumpkin i got a spare that i know works. On the 3.5 pumpkin if i decide to install 3.9 im going to take it to a shop because i cant be with out my car for more than a day or 2. Also, another factor is i plan to go F.I in a couple years depending on my financial situation, i feel i could get the use out of this mod for the time being.
Just trying to give you a guys a insight into my mind of thinking so that you maybe better to help me pick which one would be the better buy for needs/plans.

From what i gather, im thinking 3.7 is best for you? any autoX or events in the future??
I say:
- 3.7 complete pumpkin,
- Don't install it until you get the LSD installed (don't goof it up either)...
Plus if you have a shop install it, you can take them just the open pumpkin and that cuts labor down a lot bringing them the pumpkin free from the car.
- Nismo diff cover
- spl solid diff bushings
enjoy...
do it, do it right....

Ya, that what im thinking but i do want to do the work myself if i get the 3.7 pumpkin. Reason being i like working with my hands and the shop i would take it to(which you know) i kinda lost trust in them. I totally forgot about the bushings(good idea). On the lsd im going to wait a while thats why i want to get the pumpkin and run it for a while to make sure things are good. Then ill start researching what lsd would work for me best. Sense im doing the work i can take my time and learn things.
I just want to make sure when i get it on and running i feel like i gained that good low end tq back.

Leave it alone. You may be able to take advantage of a new final drive for drag racing or autocross. For the street makes little difference. Just shift up one gear or shift down one gear. Same thing.
Its a myth that a final drive “makes” torque and horsepower. Nothing after the motor makes either.
