5at all came with 3.3 gears, z and g alike. the 2006 z and g had the HR engine, which actually feels quicker than the VQ motor. Having test driven a HR after driving my VQ, the engine pulls smoother into the high rpms and as we all know also has a higher rev limit. you might have the 3.5 if you are not the original owner and the previous owner swapped pumpkins.

g37 with 7at has 3.7 gears, fyi.

while I'm not the original owner of mine there is no way the lady I bought it from had done anything to the car.

after data logging my rpms (for accuracy) I am in the same range as other 3.5 FD Gs/Zs with 5AT. It's also clearly shown in the service manual for 2006 and 2007 coupes.

 

FSM shows 3.5 rfd for the 2006 sedan as well. Always thought my rpms were higher than what others posted but attributed it all to my tires which are 245/40/18 all around.

Going to place a call to consumer affairs to see if any can field a techical question. Makes me feel foolish if it is true, since I have been searching for a 3.5 diff for a month. I know there is some tach error but will get ahold of a friend's Cipher and confirm the engine speed.
