Unhappy Grinding type of noise when in reverse! What is the problem?

Hey,

I bought an 03 M/T 350z from a private dealer a few months ago and started to notice a grinding type of noise when I first start the car and reverse it out of the garage. It is not really a rattle, more of a grinding noise. When I press the clutch all the way in, the sound goes away but when I let the clutch out and start to put it in reverse, it gets kinda loud. The car has 88k miles on it. I don't hear any type of noise when I shift gears however, just in reverse. Does anyone know what the issue may be?

Do I need a new clutch and flywheel? I've heard things about syncros but don't know much about that. Any suggestions and a quote on the price to remedy the problem would be appreciated. Thanks

Other than this issue, I love my Z. Very fun to drive and have received multiple compliments. I plan on putting 20s on it in April.

Welcome and congratulations.

It is neither the clutch or flywheel. Both operate the same in forward or reverse. Problem is from the transmission back. Have a mechanic look at the emergency brakes to insure they are operating properly.

I've been having the same issue lately. My Z has only been acting up lately (ie. cold weather.) I didn't have any issues in previous winters. I'm about to eclipse 90k.
