I am just curious, how many of you guys and gals out there have a wideband oxygen sensor? Where did you purchase yours? Where/how did you have it installed? How are you utilizing this tool?

The beauty of this setup is that it also enables logging of up to 3 EGT inputs, A/F ratios and several user programmable inputs. For example, I'm currently logging, A/F ratios, RPM and boost, eventually I want to also log Fuel Pressure and Throttle position. I just haven't really had the time to figure out how to do that yet.

With just one sensor , which side on the VQ seems best for the bung. A few destroyed #6s , so maybe that bank is safest?

 

Approximately how many miles can you put on your car before the wideband 02 goes bad?

Mine is installed in the DS bank simply for ease of installation.


Mucho expensive and it doesn't log anything, but AFR and RPM and you have to purchase the sensor separately.

Generally most WBO2 sensors use a super expensive sensor, that is hard to get. I can't remember the part number off the top of my head. Usually anywhere from $150 - $200

The Techedge unit uses the wideband O2 that comes from the VW 1.8T engine. You can pick them up at any VW/Audi dealership for $40 or less.

I think the complete Techedge setup is around $350 depending on the strength of the Australian dollar when you order it.


WB O2 sensors will have the same life as normal O2 sensors as long as you use unleaded gas, which isn't a problem for us.

 

Just don't drop your 02 sensor.. they are kinda fragile. And always anti-seize the threads of the sensor or it will NEVER come out..

 

I'm currently using an LM-1 from Innovate Motorsports. Its a nice unit, with datalogging capability and the potential for several auxillary inputs for logging. I do have to say this is a fairly new unit to come to market, and is not as proven as others at this time. Read about it here: link

 

Ah yes, anti seize. Do yourself a favor and heed jawbones advice.

 

I've heard good things about the LM-1. A nice thing is it has onboard logging storage, mine doesn't. The new rev3 version of the techedge unit will.

The only reason I didn't get the LM-1 was because it seems to be more of a temporary installation setup. I wanted mine permanently mounted with an external gauge.

 

Jesse: Remember the A/F gauge you posted a pic of before. Was that just a gauge that you buy in addition to the full wide band O2 sensor or was that an all inclusive kit?

In other words, can you buy that gauge and hook it up to the same kit you have or does it have it's own "kit"?

There's a guy doing a group buy on the LM-1 on automotive forums I think. If enough people are interested, I'm sure that you guys could set up a group buy of your own.

 

That gauge was originally designed for a NB O2 sensor. However I have purchased one of those gauges and sent it off to techedge. They're doing some reverse engineering right now, so that the TechEdge unit can use that gauge. In return I'm getting an additional WBO2 unit from them for free so I can monitor both banks of cylinders.

 

You can permanently mount the lm-1 box if you want...its not as small as others, but it can be dealt with. It will also allow for a remote display, and with the latest firmware it will log directly to a pc via serial port from what I understand. The internal logging feature is nice though, I actually would rather not have the laptop in the car.

 

I'm waiting for AEM's 52mm A/F ratio gauge w/ built in wideband. Just 1 little gauge contains everything required for it to read wideband. No need for external circuit boards or anything.

It will also be cheaper than most WBO2's out and should be out before the end of the year.

 

Wow, that will be cool, They must have really done some serious miniaturization, because it takes a lot of circuitry to control a wideband sensor.

Hey, did you happen to notice if it was capable of any logging? If so, I'd consider switching for a smaller unit like that.
