Default Another source for 3.9 FD?

I searched and didn't find any info here...

I want a 3.9 over a 4.08, so I did a little reading and found that the 2009 G37 Convertible MT comes from the factory with a 3.9 final. I think this applies to the 2008 model as well. So this raises some questions...

- Will this gearset work in a 350Z MT housing? My hope is that since the two cars in question are so similar, that it would swap over. Is there a way to determine this without phyiscally buying it? Where are the incompatibilities in other gears? Pinion length/diameter, ring thickness, bolt hole size...?

- Will this turn out as cheap as a 4.08 gearset that you buy from Nissan? I would assume so, since I don't see any reason cutting a different number of teeth into 2 pieces of metal would affect the cost drastically at the same supplier.

Can we get some help from the online OEM parts houses/dealers here?

Here's a page from the FSM with the data.

The price might be different, I actually have asked Infiniti about this a few days ago and have been waiting for a reply. Different manufacturers, different quantities produced, etc all affect the pricing.

Will it fit? Yes

What's the price? Can't say yet because it was not in the system and in fact came up as an invalid part #

there is no 2008 G37 convertible fwiw, the first model year is '09

the diff is an R200 so it should work, but the axles may need swapped, or some sort of hybrid g37 stub z axle.

the fact that it's an R200 has next to nothing to do with it actually...most ring and pinions from R200 rears do not fit the Z/G, only the 3.3, 3.5, 3.7, 3.9 and 4.08 of certain cars (not all of them even use the same one even though the ratios are the same). Output shafts are not affected by ring and pinion only by differential

Exactly. I did a bunch of gear swapping and generally accumulating data on the S13/S14 (et al) R200's over the past 6-7 years. If all R200's were compatible, then I could just go down to the salvage yard and get a 3.9 from a J30. But I know you can't because that one won't even swap into other R200's of that era.

I'm curious to know what you find out. Any discount from the current 3.9 FD sources would be awesome.

Interested guys! I need a 3.9 for my g35 6mt.

On a side note, I recall reading a while ago about a 1997 nissan pick up truck that had the 3.9 gear and was compatible with the 350z diff, any word on this as well if I can find the part number that one might also be a candidate to buy new.

Checked the price for the g37 convertible ring and pinion on a website , they go for about $444.00 maybe we should arrange a group buy if they do indeed fit our cars and get a special discount.

no truck in the Nissan US lineup offers a 3.9 final drive that works with the 350Z
