Default Resonated TPS, resonator damage?

Hey guys,

I searched quite a bit on here and 'Driver and have came up with no answers to my questions. I bought some used test pipes last week, they got here on Thursday. I had a chance to give them a real good look over today and noticed the resonator on the inside of one of the pipes is torn. The preferated metal is raised up about 1/4" and the metal is visibily damaged. What are the possible problems with this? TIA for the help.

-Sean

Really looks like it was made that way, doesn't it? Maybe the manufacturer was trying to save some $ and used two scrap pieces instead of one piece of the proper length. Might not make much difference, but that's just a guess.

Thanks for the reply. The manufacturer is fast intentions. I don't think they'd cut corners that much. Correct me if I'm wrong..

If there's no external damage, that should be your answer, but if the manufacturer has a US distributor, I'd send them the pics and ask.

That's probably a way to let the pipes expand lengthwise as they heat up. Not as neatly done as I'd like to see, but probably just fine.

One of the Megan mufflers I am using has that but it doesn't sound any different than the other.

That sounds logical. Do other brands incorporate something like this into their designs?

Hey guys. Bumping this up. I talked to Tony at F.I. and he said the resonators are blown. Can that small damage ruin the whole resonator? Also, will that damage effect the sound, aka rasp?
