Its the pin/bolt that slides into the rear subframe. Its the bolt sticking out of the cover in the picture:

Any decent machine shop should be able to get the stud out, but by the time that's done, and assuming you can find a new stud, it might be cheaper to just buy a new cover.

Its the stud, simple , just hit it up with an easy out. The new stud should be cheap.

If the OEM bushing breaks, the stud bangs around and any decent amount of wheel hop can easily break it.

I have the OEM busing in. It doesn't look like the bad, no evidence of leakage, ect, but the bolt is def gone. The diff will actually move when it is put in gear, reverse, ect.

Did it just break one day while driving or was there some event that caused it? Just curious.

What broke is called a "stud", and your gonna be better off buying a new rear cover then replacing the stud.

As luck may have it I have an extra diff cover laying around if you want it PM me.

damn... only the second time i've seen this! i can see how slop in the bushing could cause excessive strain. i'm installing SPL's solid diff in the spring... fingers crossed.

probably a TT setup... you know those torque curves... 200tq @ 2500, then bam!, 550tq @ 2000 rpm later in a matter of a second. just speculating and kidding of course but this does scare me and why i will never TT my Z.

GL op,

A bit embarrassing but my diff bushing's been blown since I had like 60K on my Z. I currently have around 120K. I drag raced my Z for years, and with nitrous, and the bolt hasn't snapped on me (now bending, I'm not sure).

Is the stud not threaded on both sides? meaning where it goes into the cover?

It broke one day while diving. Hear a big thump when switching gears, looked under the car and was amazed that the diff was moving up and down.....
