Default Going out on a limb, buying another track 350z project!

Hey guys,

I was just hoping to get some info about a potentially bad situation I might be getting myself into ha!

Im looking at buying a;
-03 Track model 350z with about 35k Miles with a blown motor (supposedely that the issue)
-Misshift from 4th to 1st apparently causing the motor to seize

Do u guys think it would be even worth it to rebuild the motor?

Could this have wrecked havock to the 6speed transmission?

What am I looking at costs wise either rebuilding or swapping? (Been trying to price out my options> what do motors typically go for on here)

I am planning on pulling the motor in and out myself but would not have the skill or ability to rebuilding it myself....

My current dd is a black 04 with tokico's and work crkai << damn i love these cars

Also what would a swap to a rev up motor also need. Is the wiring and all that the same?

???

u are serious man? 9k for a wrecked track 03 with 35k? can u lower the price on the car any lower? like maybe another 1k or 2k.

when u said wrecked i assumed it has salvage title right?

around my place tranny is about 1.5k and engine is about 1.5 k too. so u your total 12k if u fix it yourself. U now have a running salvage title car! current blue book price is about ?? 14k? or 15? for this track edition with clean title! why would u want to spend money like this?? i dont know.

i said no bro. but good luck

No NEVER wrecked as in pretty much mint 30-35k 03 track edition.

Now I'm wondering what's else is required for a rev up swap beside the engine? Seems likes it's gonna cost me 1700plus shipping for a motor alone from what people have said.

A seized motor at 35k miles due to a missed shift from 4th to 1st... I may be wrong but that seems highly unlikely... I mean blowing a gear ya, especially if it wasn't corrected by disengaging the clutch quickly enough I understand. but seizing the motor? I don't know maybe you guys can shed some light on that.

Also $9k for a 03 with a seized motor is a little high in my opinion. Why would you buy a not running car just to do a swap though? I mean I would totally say go for it if the price was let's say in between 7k and 8k and you were planing to just rebuild the motor then you might come out on top with a freshly rebuilt motor and 35k miles on the chassis for 10k or under. With Z prices dropping like rocks lately i'm sure with a little effort you could find a 03-04 track (running) for around 10 to 11k maybe even less if you got lucky.

On top of that what are you planing to do with the car? if you're just planing to rebuild or swap a stock motor, I don't really see the point. Now if you were planing to do a built motor, bore/stroke (increase the displacement) - upgraded pistons, rods, cams ext then I would totally understand.

I don't know you guys can throw in your 2cents...

op - for 9k i'd get a running used high mileage 03 z-car and run her hard until she lets go on a race track, trailer her home then work on rebuilding the engine.

benefits: you get to race immediately, less time commitment upfront and possibly you feel like a higher return on investment.

hell if you want real cheap, look for a salvaged z, pull the frame. Frankenstein some donor body panels and just track it...

i missed read it. sorry but even if it is not wrecked 9k is a little high. like i said before. hope u make a decision soon. once u've made a decision, i think u should just go with it. do not dwell on it if u make a bad decision! good luck

i have revup harness if you need it

the hr (07-08) are a pain to swap in fyi, i believe the nissan sport editor tried it and was much more involving than he thought

I picked up a motor with 39k on it for $350; I'm adding forged pistons and rods to it then dropping it into my G.
You shouldn't pay over $1k for a good vq35, and you can use a revup engine without swapping the harness, etc.

9k is way too much for a non running car. You never know what else might be wrong with the car until you drive it which you can't do right now.
