Default oil consumption mineral oil vs. synthetic

would oil consumption rate be any different between dino oil vs. synthetic? the owner's manual recommends dino oil, wondering what's the real reason behind that statement is? is it because oil consumption is more excessive using synthetic than mineral oil? has anyone ever used both oil and notice the difference of consumption rate?

Never tried mineral oil in a Z yet. I don't suggest it either

lol. In my HR Z there was zero consumption in a 3500 mile interval with 5w30 AMSOIL. I was very impressed. I've never seen a dipstick read exactly the same after 3500 miles. I Switched it to synth at 18k miles

i'm using amsoil myself(5w-40) since 12,000 mi, it has 35,xxx mi now,and about 4,000 mi since last oil change. my change interval is every 5,000 mi and had an extra QT.of oil went into it already. i'm just wondering switching back to dino oil and changing it every 3,000 mi might help reduce extra consumption. i used dino oil up to first 12,000 mi and didn't really notice any extra oil consumption then, maybe the oil change was too frequent for me to notice any drop. mine is 05 model bought new. just contemplating what to do.

Won't make enough of a difference to say there is one.

At least it didn't in the 2 engines I went through, before Nissan got it right. Engine# 3 seems to be doing well though...

Nissan tried to say my problem was because I was using synthetic oil, along with my aftermarket engine parts... I removed all non-factory parts, and switched to dino oil, and still had the about the same level of consumption.

Consumption shouldnt matter, the weigh seems to. The 03 now used Amsoil 5w40 and burns about 1 quart in 5k , then 1/2 quart per day on the track. When i used 0w30 amsoil i had to fill a quart every 2500 miles, and burned more on the track. My 05 gets the finest of Walmart Supertech Synthetic 5w30, 5k oil changes and doesn't burn a drop.
The 03 has 130k on it, owned since 36k, burned slightly less when i bought it.
The 05 has 61k on it, got it with 26k on it.

When I used dino 5w-30 I burned 1Q/3500 miles. I switched to 5w-30 Mobil 1, burned 2Q/3500 miles. Now I use Mobil 1 0w-40 and burn 0.5-1Q/3500 miles. Any race day, I burn 1 quart.

Stellar idea. I think Nissan is going to give you a reward for this solution.

Out of all the synthetic oils I have used in the last seven years or so, Mobil 1 5w-30 burns off the most. It didn't matter what size the engine was. My Z(HR) has used GC for all of it's oil changes, except one. So far, no noticeable consumption and I check my oil every week, like clockwork.
