Default Needing to replace clutch in my '04 Z, price help?

So, clutch is starting to slip bad, and smells awful. Time to change it, I was wondering if anyone has gone through a shop in the past and has an idea of price? (shops are closed right now so I can't call around) I got a quote from a Nissan dealership though and they said around 1,400 after tax. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I dont have a price for you, but you can get it done WAY cheaper than that else where. Try to find a local shop that specializes in nissan's and get a quote from them.

If the clutch is worm what about the flywheel? You may have to replace both.

They were talking about replacing the flywheel, but they think it's probably just the clutch. I'm going to call around some shops now, thanks you guys.

Stock flywheel can be resurfaced. Lots of places, and people, will tell you cant be done, but I had it done successfully. Just take it to a machine shop with a clue.

We've had several Z's in our shop that came in between 1k-2k miles after having their flywheel resurfaced. End result is installing a new flywheel, which means you end up paying for the labor twice. (one of them actually had to get another new clutch put in too.)

If you do find a place that will resurface your flywheel, just consider that buying a brand new one isn't that much more. When my clutch goes out I'm going to replace both just to have that peace of mind.

Machine shop resurfaced mine for sub $100 while they were machining my block... I'd have to dig out the itemized invoice to remember exactly what the cost was for that.

7k miles later, no issues, and 90% of those miles have been on a track or autox course. Clutch (South Bend DXD stg 5) engages flawlessly.

OEM flywheel lists at ~ $850 according to courtesy parts. "Not that much more" is a relative phrase.

Considering a clutch+flywheel+labor+tax will cost somewhere between 1300-1400, ($1000 in parts)

Or clutch+resurface+labor+tax will cost you 750, but at the risk that you'll have to go back in the near future for another 850+400+tax, wouldn't you want to play it safe?

Many people can't afford to pay for the whole thing, so I can understand if you want to go the inexpensive route... but it comes with a risk. That's all I'm trying to get across here.
