VTC HELP!! (varible timing control)
I have a 2006 rev-up motor and would like to remove my VTC covers and have them polished. After looking at the owners manual i got worried because it has some magnetic device behind the cover and was worried about messing up the timing! My car is mostly for show and isn't driven every day so i would like to get this done! It looks pretty simple to do, loosen some bolt and pull them off! I would have a shop do it but is pretty expensive and the car will be down for several days! also the good shops are far from me and would have to spend $125 on a cab or get a trailer! I have done all the engine work myself and am pretty handy so if someone could explain to me in detail how to take them off and put back on, thanks in advance!!
Also my questions would be.
1) do you have to drain the oil and or coolant to take these covers off??
2) do you have to mark any timing position??
3) does anyone have any pictures of the underside of the vtc covers??

I hope i don't have much to do!! So what is the deal with the magnetic retarder?? Is it part of the cover?? Or are they just covers that cover all the timing components and gears??? I was looking to buy some covers new from the dealer and they come with a pully kit! So im thinking there is some type of gearing attached to the covers?? If anyone has any pics I would like to see the covers off the motor

a. Loosen mounting bolts in reverse order as shown in the figure.
b. Shaft is engaged with intake side camshaft sprocket center hole
on inside. Pull straight out so as not to tilt until the joint is disengaged.
The mating surface of magnet retarder may be fitted with the
exhaust side camshaft sprocket via the engine oil. Open valve
timing control cover carefully.
If the mating surface of magnet retarder is fitted with the camshaft
sprocket, open the cover within the range that the load is
not applied to the harness. And then, remove it so as to prevent
magnet retarder from dropping.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage magnet retarder.
When carrying valve timing control cover, face the magnet retarder side up to prevent the cover
from falling from magnet retarder.
Do not remove magnet retarder from valve timing control cover. (Disassembly prohibited parts)
16. Remove collared O-ring from front timing chain case (left and
right side). (A/T models)

Just a Public Service Announcement......
For anyone considering doing this for the cover to be powder coated, carefully REMOVE the collar/ring/clip that is on the inside of the VTC/cam cover beforehand.
Sent mine to a knowledgeable and experienced guy to have done. I don't really blame him, more so myself, but these rings (which the manual say to replace after every removal) are NOT sold separately. Guess I should have researched more first...but always rushing around.
A new cover for a Rev-up is $650 from dealership, times 2 is pretty expensive for a little color in the old engine bay.
Wish I had left mine alone.........
