Default Noobie Q? Is 20% drivetrain loss normal?

I'm kinda new to this forum. I got my Z last week and am starting with minor mods first. I was suprised to see that the Z is putting down 230ish HP to the wheels when to advertised HP (flywheel?) is 287. If these measurements are close to true, that equates to a 20% loss in the drivetrain. I am under the impression that most two-wheel drive cars are in the 12-15% range, but 20%, what is holding up the extra HP in the Z?

If this is a truly newie question, just laugh and then be nice

According to dwnshift, (who has dyno'd the engine) we only have about 270, and our loss is around 13%.

If someone has actually dynoed the engine, and only got 270hp, and if this can be confirmed on all Zs, then Nissan could probably be forced to compensate owners. Misquoted information by manufactures is usualy a big thing... I think the RX-8 had this when it came out, they were quoting the HP too high.

Also, I know a simialiar thing happened a while back with the Dodge Dakota R/T. They misquoted how much it could tow/haul. They did not compensate enough for the sport suspension the R/T had... they offered a couple of compensating options, one of which was to buy back the vehicle at the original purchase price, regardless of miles on the vehicle.

i got 225hp with my 5at, so thats about 22% drivetrain loss at 287hp at the crank. or about 17% with 270hp; however i think that the engine is actually producing 287hp because i've yet to see a stock 5at have below 20% drivetrain loss.

Well, dwnshift said he had dyno'd several engines, all near 270. He also is one of the few people who races the Z, and I would think knows all the details a lot better than us.

A few others seem to have confirmed this, but I have yet to see a dyno.
