I'm still confused as why where and how the RT cat cause a lean condition.. why are they so significant to the lean condition? Do other highflow cats create a lean condition?.. nismo, crawford, etc... why?

I'm also confused regarding how RT cats could cause a lean condition. On a 4 cycle engine, I would expect that changes to the TB, ECU, plenum, injectors, cams, timing, aspiration etc could effect AF ratios.... but I fail to understand how changes to the exhaust cycle could change the AF ratio.
Is there enough feedback from people with only RT cats, or RT cats in combination with other exhaust-only mods ?

Max- from what I understand from Tadashi diagnostics mode should not alter the ECU- the only thing that would alter it would be another reflash- But I'd call or email Tadashi to verify.

Tex- not sure if the RT cats cause a lean condition with the stock ECU- the stock ECU may compensate for the lean condition and correct it. With the TS ECU- TS leaned out the car just a bit with the standard flash (stock ECU was running the car a little rich from factory). When the RT cats are added to a car that already has TS ECU it leans out the mixture even more to the point where it is a little too lean.
The initial theory is that the o2 sensor is sitting closer to the catalyst and the o2 sensor (because of the increased heat) thinks the car is running rich and has the ECU try to compensate and lean out the mixture. (So I guess this could happen with stock ECU as well).

So, it is safe to run the RT cats with the stock ecu? I'm planning to get one soon, but I do not want to making the car running too lean because the cats. And has anyone with the engine lights come on due to the RT cats?

I have the RT Cats with a stock ECU. I really don't know if I am running lean or not (just got the cats last month). I have had no CEL issues and no pinging. I will probably get a TS reflash in the next 30-45 days.

I'm also scheduled to install the cats later this week. Should I not get them installed with my Borla exhaust?

How's the sound ? Anyways, I seriously doubt that running the RT Cats with the stock ECU is gonna run you lean. Seems like people only with a previous TS flash are having issues. I'am also getting the RT cats installed tommorow at www.performancenissanparts.com on my g35 coupe with no other real mods besides a Z-Tube and Blitz filter. I'll report back on any findings.

Thanks StrictlyZ,

The ECU learns the same whether flashed or reflashed in closed loop mode it just learns slower.

Try it, I have Borla Headers and Borla TD and bought RT Cats and it brought my system to life and added TORQWUE! then Chicken Little screamed "the sky is falling." It wasn't I am "reflashed" and do not have any "problems." You will never know by asking is my point you have to try it. I would talk to Performance Nissan they have two N/A Z's and seem to have a firm grasp on these Cats and the ECU (my opinion, take it FWIW)

A few of you guys that is installing RT cats with stock ECU need to get your a/f so we can see if stock ECU causes lean condition or not. Like skrofa14 said:

What happened to the one guy who's only mod was going to be the RT's and then he was going to post the plug for us? This was his *only* mod. Where did he go? I hate doing Dynos when there is a suspected lean condition myself. I would rather crap a golfball.

Had my cats installed a week ago and my CEL came on. I thought with a few hundred miles after the install it may go away, but not yet.

If your CEL stays on there is a possiblility that the O2 sensors may have been damaged during the install. Having the CEL light stay on following the cat installation is not common.

If the sensor is damaged, will not going to the dealership for a while potentially cause any secondary damage to anything?
