Hey it's cool. I'm just saying what I experienced. I'm just like this. I'm European, gotta forgive my attitude.

I had a simple question about CAI's which I have put off asking for awhile. After reading the crap 1.8T got, I think I'll pass.

BTW, I did a search under CAI. Got 1,318 Posts with CAI somewhere in the text. 205 threads with CAI in the title. Why should 1.8T have to search through all that verbiage when some of you guys who know the answer to his question could just tell him? If you don't want to tell him, then don't. Guys, life's too short.

Go ahead and ask, I'll answer if I know if... and without the B.S.

Hraesvelg, Thanks. In looking over the intake in my Z, I can't help but wonder what the magic is in the aftermarket CAI's? Our intake tube is a straight shot from grille entry to plenum, with only the filter to slow things down. Hard to believe that Nissan would put a really inferior filter in these things.
Most of the aftermarket units have metal tubes, which would seem to be hotter than the stock unit.
As you can see, I'm no technician, but the logic fails me on this.

I have yet to see an actual dyno on these CAI's but I really didn't feel much of a difference in driving with my Injen, but maybe my butt dyno isn't as sensitive as some other people on here. It does sound pretty cool in the short ram air setup, and looks cool. As far as heat, the metal tube does get hot even with the heat shield installed. The stock airbox does a good job in my opinion. I got it mostly for the sound, and the *bling* factor. Nissan did a good job with this stock intake.

Thanks, that's pretty much as I see it. Now if we were talking about the intake on my S-10, I could see room for all kinds of improvements.
I'm kinda into the sound aspect, but my hearing is going south, so I guess I'll save my money.
I really think Nissan did a good job on this car period. It's my 5th Z and by far the most satisfying.
By the way, how does your butt dyno feel about your grounding kit?

I think it's the same before and after, nothing special, more *bling* than anything. Although it does seem to shift better but that could be the placebo effect. I really need to get my digital multi-meter out and take voltage measurments at each grounding point when the kit is off to see if it actually does anything. I will say the grounding kit is well made, although the "gold" plating on the ends of the wires is chipping off.

Looks like the grounding kit is one of those "jury" things. When the prosecution makes it case, I say "hang him high". Then the defense comes on and I say "turn him loose". I think it's one of those things which can't easily be proven, one way or the other. Oh well. I may try to make a set for my S-10. Any improvement on it would be easily recognized (and welcomed).
Hey, thanks for talking to me. I appreciate it. Take it easy.

People have dynoed their GTI 1.8T's (on Vortex) with the grounding kits, and it gained acctuall HP@wheels. Hmmm, amazing.

I have seen a dyno for a Z grounding kit and it "gained" 2 hp, but that's within the error range of a dyno
