Will this be the same process with a HR to DE transmission? I picked up a 07-08 HR tranny with 9k by seller mistake and would love to swap the inside to my 03 case.

Nice bit of investigative engineering. Congrats! Whoever you work for should consider paying you more and working you harder so you don't have time for this kind of stuff.

Ok. Let me do a little research in the software and I will tell you what you have to do. I don't want to steer you wrong. I will reply late late tonight or tomorrow.

Btw, nice tranny! It's in great shape.

Great info and thread! Inside of transmissions scare me lol.

I found out the hard way, the hr tranny is just like the 370 in this thread. So to swap a hr into a de would be this same process.

Did you have to remove any components from the tail assembly to remove the bell housing?

The rod connecting the shift forks is what's keeping you from taking just the bolts out and sliding it off.

There are several dowel pins on the shift mechanism. If you remove the plate on top of the tail assembly, you can see them. I don't remember exactly how many you have to take out but knock them out with a punch and the tail assembly should come apart.

It's been so long now that I do not remember everything that I had to remove to get the tail assembly off. You might have to use a rubber mallet or a little force because it is held together with RTV silicone.

Hope this helps!

Even though this is an old thread I give props for the effort.

I just wanted to clear up to people since someone mentioned it being stronger. A stock 350z 6mt can hold over 1000hp without problems so people shouldn't concern themselves with the strength of our transmissions.

Wow reading this build was awesome and mad props to Derek. Ive always wanted to pull a transmission apart and this gives a lot more perspective to it. I love engineering. lol

I got a question for binder though, are our tranmissions rated for up to 1000hp for racing with and not drifting?
Im just curious because i was talking to one of the mechanics at formula D in LB running a VQ motor and he was saying that the transmissions at over 600hp drifting tend to get shredded up quickly and break gears?
