What is the going on price on new 4.083 Gears/Final drive? I found them for $440 plus CA sales tax.

That's a very good price. Mynismo.com was the cheapest I found when I bought mine.

 

Anyone looking to buy the 4.083 gears in the near future? If we get at least 5 people interested maybe we can negotiate a lower price?

 

depending on price yes. I was looking at 4.3 but I could do 4.08 too.

 

I need 2 more people to get brand new 4.083 gears for $440. The cheapest i have been able to find them is $475. I have read this is a mod you won't regret.
Anyone already with this mod please chime in...

its a great mod, but for 35 bux just do it lol.

 

A lot of people misinterpret the practical effects of this modification; they see "15% increase in acceleration in every gear" and just get all googly-eyed. The reality is that while they may increase acceleration and torque by 15% in each gear, each one of those gears is 15% shorter, negating the effects of those gains after 1st gear in a straight line.

So for a straight line race, the only place where you will see any performance increase over the stock 3.54 gearing will be in 1st gear. Beyond that, it balances out to be the same straight-line performance. Don't let that "15% increase" fool you into thinking there's not a negating drawback.

The other negative considerations are traction and gas mileage. Traction and hook-up will take a hit due to the increased torque at the wheels from a dig, and cruising gas mileage will take a hit due to the increased RPMs at any given speed.

The reason I say all of this isn't to discourage you from buying them, but just to make sure you're fully aware of what this modification *really* does. A lot of the people who talk about FD Gear swaps seem to gloss over these details, and I didn't want this to happen here.
