Default Stock LSD

Hey everyone this is my first post on this site,
I have an 03 base model and i have been thinking about finding an lsd off of a better model of the same year to install. I would probably also go ahead and get gears like 3.9's or so. Im a little tight on cash right now (just bought the z) so i was thinking this might be easier and cheaper than buying lets say a quife or whatever. Would this even be worth the time or does the stock lsd kinda suck? and with 3.9 gearing is that gonna slow down the top end a whole lot? thanks ahead of time

1. not a great idea, especially "off a better model of the same year" as it would be 9 years old and most likely already worn out.

the stock lsd, is actually a vlsd....which is a non-mechanical contact "viscous" fluid limited slip differential..........as in the thick fluid in the sealed lsd unit has a shear value with its viscosity.......once the fluid breaks down it becomes less and less viscous and essential "in time/with age" does nothing and becomes no different than an open differential.

2. NO, not at all....your better off getting the gears (if thats what you want) and getting that paired up with a quaiffe or aftermarket lsd of your choice..

as i mentioned in 1, the stock lsd breaks down in viscosity and becomes week..........remember the 350z is no longer in production...so even if you got one out of an 08 model its already 4ish years old......so dont bet on it being "new" and its definately not worth the work to install a factory vlsd over a way way better performing aftermarket lsd.
