Default Tomei 268's

From one dyno run to the next (after mods) I gained 29.2 rwhp! The new (additional) mods consisted of the 268's, forged pistons & rods, bored .20, and a small amount of head work! I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can't tell you what the 268s did by themselfs! I can tell you that above 4000 it "screams"! My latest upgrade (switching headers) increased rwhp over 7 and low down torque over 38 , facts to be published later!

Damn, now that is some serious N/A power. A review and your driving impressions would be great to hear...

The review of Mike's car which I wrote after an evening of driving it.

Enjoy!

So that is what Tomei 268s feel like...

Thanks, didn't know he was forged throughout, that makes a difference, lol. Great mods there, bet it screams. If I were to add cams, I would DEFINITELY want the lobe to be so dramatic that I could put the chocolate milk in the passenger seat, ala those chocolate milk commericals, lol.

Even if I went TT, still might get cams just for the feel, heh.

Does Doug do cam installs? I still want to take a trip to TN sometime this coming year when the weather is nice and would like to get some cams installed at some point. Thinking maybe I could kill two birds with one stone. Just need to find a reliable installer. There really are no shops I am familiar with in my area for working on imports.

You name it... Doug can do it.

We'll say he's ala'carte?

Question Tomei Powerbands

Guys - I've had an e-mail into Tomei for over a week with no response ( maybe the Christmas rush? ) . Does anyone know the approximate powerbands for the 264 & 268 cams? I know that the 268 ( with it's longer duration ) will be in a higher rpm range but where do these cams kick in? To be truthful, I'm disappointed in the below 3k response of the VQ engine. Sure, it's an animal above that & I DO drive around town with the proper gear chosen to keep me there BUT, even though I have the Level 10 3k stall T/C & almost every N/A mod available, OF COURSE I want more power!! My long range plan is to choose a cam & then use an rpm system to inject nitrous from say, 1500 rpms until the cams come on then get off the squeeze @ 5k or so & let the rest of the free-flowing intake & exhaust do it's thing. This way should help keep the engine together long enough for the TT & S/C makers to perfect their systems then I'll build a forged bottom end to handle the F/I. Any thoughts?

FWIW - I was an Electronics moderator on the ClubLexus.com website for 3 years & since being here for 6+ months, all of you seem more technically inclined than the CL gang. I still love those guys & have the GS400 ( my first import ) but it's been educational reading all of your posts! Thanks for the info-sharing.

268s powerband is 4k to redline.

If you're looking for sub 4k they aren't for you.

Mike drags and road races his car - NEVER is he below 4k. Per these were a PERFECT choice for him.

Hopefully mjedens will post his recent dyno after adding the Crawford headers which will give us some info as to how these 268 cams + a good set of headers will perform. I am very eager to see the results.

In his post on this thread today mjedens mentioned that he has not published the most recent results from the Crawford Header install. I am referring to the Dyno chart so we can see where the overall AUC gains were realized going from Nismo headers to Crawford headers. Peak numbers do not mean a whole lot to me. I am really looking for good gains across the RPM range so I have great power and throttle response no matter where I am at RPM-wise. I love being able to hit the throttle with my 5AT and turn the tires over on a roll in 1st or second at about 4k. I could not even come close to those results before the Crawford Header install.

Of course I was joking about the lobe and the chocolate milk, lol, this is the very reason why I wouldn't be buying any cams.

Mike's car has a NICE lobe! Nothing that will shake the car... but still enough that if you have a "car ear" you'll hear his isn't running like stock!

Bet it is cool as the other side of the pillow. I would really like it, but on my car, I spend most of my time below 4K. So useable power is more important to me than peak HP, least right now. But regardless, my car will be my daily driver, so I do want useable power.

Peak numbers shouldn't mean the most...

Unless you're a dyno QUEEN!

Let's just say - EVERYONE was shocked at the numbers he made in the low RPM range once he went to the Crawford header. As much as I want to say... I'll let him share.
