Default noob clutch & flywheel question. (:

So my clutch is start to go in my 04.5, I'm going to be throwing some mods to it here by summer and was wanting some help from the guys who know the Z platform. So question is, what clutch && light weight combo should i use? I'll be having it installed at Nissa. Simply because I'm not the smartest mechanic alive.....lol. anyhow.

The rattling that my z causes whenever I start from a roll or when I shut the car down. Any information on the topic would be appreciated.

My total goal for the Z is 350-400whp. Nothing really over that. Looking at the stage 2 clutches && JWT flywheels. I've never heard any chatter from any of my friends light weight flywheels so I was curious as to how loud it actually is on the 350, since the car already shakes, rattles and rolls. Thanks

Also, I've been reading more and more on flywheels and so many inputs on different companies. I'd like the least amount of chatter (as would anybody) 14lbs on the JWT seems nice. People have been saying JWT has a great clutch/flywheel combo but i can't find it on their site. This is my DD and as far as clutches go, some people say certain types of clutches grab hard. Idiot question but that simply means the give point is much smaller compared to the stock clutch in the Z now?

Anything I should replace while they have it apart?

JWT would be the way to go.

Search for Concept Z Performance or look in the vendors section, they usually stock them.

I noticed this JWT Clutch & Flywheel combo for 775 which seems like a pretty legit price. Although looking around on the page I couldn't find what kind of clutch it was or the flywheel weight. Any advice?

I'd be happy to see what I could do to earn your business! PM me with your zip code and put "JWT Combo" as the subject!

Above: A clutch that looks like the OEM clutch will perform similar to the OEM clutch. Manufactures generally refer to this as Stage #1. You can also call this clutch street friendly.

Above: Misinformed members often buy a clutch with a clamping capacity that exceeds their needs. Thinking is that if it can hold say, 400 pounds of torque, than it must be "better." The result will often be an aggressive clutch that is a pain in *** to operate for a daily driver.

NOTE: If you are shopping for a flywheel and clutch, I recommend that you buy a flywheel and clutch from the same manufacture. They are designed and tested to work together.

DavidV,
Since the Z is my DD, how big of a pain would a stage 2 clutch really be? I've driven a 300zx TT that had a stage 3 in which was too much pressure for a dd. Any advice? Thanks for the information.

You may look into South Bend DXD clutches.

South Bend has great clutch kits, Much better quality than many, May cost a little more than the JWT combo but you will get a much better, longer lasting clutch.

All of the DXD clutch kits in the full face design are great driving kits for the street, Even the ones that rate out at 600TQ Stay away from puck clutches if you want smooth operation. The DXD Billet Flywheel is the quietest aftermarket available and does not cause a lot of excess trans chatter noise like others do.

stage 2 means nothing OP.

Full faced, sprung hub is what you want.
ANY other flywheel other than OEM will chatter.. tis not the flywheel, its the gear box.

Its not that bad, tons of youtube videos.

JWT is the best route.

It will be what limits my HP.. around 600 hopefully.. so you will be fully fine w it.. read about it and learn yes, but it IS what you should buy.

and 775 will get you that combo from most vendors here.. its what i paid for mine at Intense as well.. you already have vendor offers above, id jump on it.

np man.. hey FWIW, i ahvent installed mine yet, but the thread keeps getting one great reply after the other..

RJM adjustable pedal bracket for clutch.. its 135 bucks and is said to be THE clutch mod to bring the car back to a more enjoyable driving experience as it relates to clutch feel and engagement.

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...l-bracket.html

, its full of alot of vets w alot of replies and is a fairly new part being used by us Z guys..

and its a good idea to get installed when you do a clutch as they ahve to re adjust all that pedal crap anyways.

comp clutch has two different nice combo kits. a stage 2 with a light weight flywheel for a little more than 900, and also a stage 4 with ULW flywheel for only $50 more. I am going with the stage 4 for my build cause I will be about 550whp. anything under 400 should be just fine for the stage 2.
