Default Possible timing out (low vaccum, cam sensor CEL)

Fresh rebuild, I was sure to get timing correct before i put it in the car. When I start the car it's a hard start situation usually need to wide open throttle it. It starts and runs at 1200 rpms and 10in vaccum pretty smooth. Revs sluggishly, is there a way to check timing marks from removing the covers over the intake cam pulleys?

The only way to check the marks on the chains is to remove the entire front cover... its an involved job.

Possible that you have a loose/bad connection on a cam sensor? What is the CEL code?

Low compression on cyl 1 60 psi compared to 90 in cyl 3 there 8.1.1 je pistons.

Possible you washed out the rings with excessive fuel on initial start up.

Who did the rebuild?

Who did the initial startup?

Did you do a leakdown as well or just a compression check?

I'm sure you are aware, but 60 is not a great number

I kept the same rings from before the rebuild only had 10k miles when it took out a rod bearing. found out the engine builder put the pistons in backwards on the passenger side of the car maybe the reason the car took out bearing. Anway so the rings are already worn in and car ran great. I had short block built professionally by a reputable builder. I installed heads and timing by hanes manual, im afraid it skiped a tooth before it built oil.pressure.to tension the rear chains.

Was this problem ever solved?

I don't meant to thread jack, but I have a fresh rebuild with a cam code and low vacuum(Steady around 13) except I don't have a sluggish rev. The car feels good in the power band and cylinder compression shows 152-154 in all cylinders. Do you think the timing is out, or is the bad cam sensor causing the low vacuum? Thanks

After you installed the chains did you turn the motor over by hand to ensure all is ok? If so the main tensioner should have self adjusted a little. If you have access to cipher and if the car can starts on the stock ecu then you can monitor the actual cam angles on both banks. If if it is a tooth out then one bank will be about 12-14 degrees out in the logs. Also if you were a tooth out then the whole bank will be running low on compression test not just one cylinder
