Default $268 bucks for Pulley install? crappola

Just called courtesy Nissan (Dallas, tx) and asked what the cost would be to install the UR pulley on the crank.........

$268.00 bucks.. Holy Shi$

Courtesy is known for doing alot of aftermarket mods to the Z cars, but at prices like this I would be surprised they get much business.

Someone said it was a 45 minute job (if you can get the stock pulley removed). Am I off base here??? Is this price reasonable, or are they smoking crack over there?

Anyone got any recommendations in the dallas area?

I'd say 2 hours for a backyard mechanic. For an installer that's done it before, 1 hour. Perhaps less with a rack. Even at $80 bucks an hour, that's still only $80 to $160 max. $268 seems quite high.

They are smoking way too much crack. If its only the crank pulley like you said 45 minutes top. Go buy a $30 craftsman breaker bar and follow the instructions you can't go wrong. Its pretty easy!!

Do it yourself, it isn't that hard to do as long as you have the right length breaker bar. (as long as you do not have an automatic)

I agree with the above. EVEN THOUGH I have an auto and it was indeed a pain in the **** to do, I wouldn't pay someone 270 bucks to install- Hey that's money to apply to other mods!!!

That does seem high. Maybe its parts + labour.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Actually, NO, its not parts + LABOR. I told them I have the Pulley already, and just need an install.

Besides, Courtesy does NOT sell just the crank pulley by itself. They only sell the complete 3 piece kit, which cost $360 if you buy it from them.....So, no this was just the install.

After doing some searches, etc, I think I will do the install myself. Since this is a "3rd" car, if I get stuck, oh well...It will just sit in the garage till I figure it out. LOL.

Clueless,
I will be getting my pullies soon, bought from a guy here on the forum.......guess his AT made the install too difficult. That would **** me off. Anyway, I'll watch this thread to see how the install goes as I will most likely have it done unless it appears to be not as difficult as I anticipate it to be.

It took me and the tech at our dealership about 15-20 minutes at the most. I put it in sixth, stood on the brakes and he went push push PUSH on the breaker bar and it was loose. Take it off align the new one and tighten to spec. Put on the belts, no sweat at all. It is EASY (with the right tools).

Default Pulley installed

Guys,

Thanks for the support...And for the PM's from several folks offering to help.

I got the crank Pulley from David @ 350zforums. (nice guy).

Anyway, I said "what the hell". I had all the tools anyway.

Took about 5 minutes to loosen the crank pulley. Wife stood on the brake.

Including removing the plastic underbody liner, the engine cover and all, the total install probably took me about 60- 90 Minutes. I took my sweet as time.

Pretty easy actually. 1 comment. There is no way in hell you can remove the crank pulley with a "Breaker bar" by itself. I have an 18" breaker bar, and cannot apply enough torque with it.

I have a Racing jack with 2 handle extensions. I put 1 of the extensions over the breaker bar, which gave me about a 3 foot total leaverage, and was able to break lose the crank bolt.

All done!
