Default Are the Open Diff and VLSD Diff's swap-able?

I curious if the Open Diff and VLSD Diff's are swap-able without major differences needed in shimming?

I know there will always be cases where when you do diff swaps that you'll need to adjust things and I'll measure the backlash and also the gear mesh patterns. But before I go through all the work to find out if it can be done I figured I'd just ask.

Reason for asking this. I currently have a 3.538 open diff carrier and a 3.917 VLSD carrier.

I'm going to get a Quaife for the 3.917 carrier but wondered if I could just get an open diff model Quaife and take the stub axles from the 3.538 and use that on that one. Then put the VLSD diff into the 3.538 and use the stub axles from the VLSD rear on it.

Maybe I'm just asking for too much trouble. In some ways I just want to leave the 3.538 open diff alone to put the carrier back in for when selling the car type thing but I also might be buying the Quaife used and that in turn means I might get an open diff model of the Quaife as well.

Either way wanted to know if I wanted to go down that road if it can be done or not.

Thanks!

Ted
