"Shifty" Shifted Performance: My experience.
Holy 4ck... I thought my experience was bad- and I still think it was pretty bad don't get me wrong- but this takes it to a whole new level. This is nothing other than a relentless pursuit of imperfection.
I had a long list of issues from Progressive Auto in Victoria- many of the things you were mentioning like front motor mounts missing completely, the block sitting crooked, haphazard line management... abstract fittings... jank workmanship overall... bent rod... I was in familiar territory throughout all that. I'm pretty sure I connected with how you must have felt writing all that- because I have written a similar thread. Well, actually... a couple of them.
But your experience continues down an already badly beaten path towards the unbelievable and unfathomable. The ULTIMATE slap in the face was that signature- ...with pride. The backhand from that slap is the fact that you were described as "rushing" them and he outright finger pokes you and says it was "his fault because he rushed us."
The kick in the nuts following that facial abuse is that shift ****.
I haven't the words for this debacle. This is truly, unspeakably awful.

i like the last part of their statement.."if we had 1 more week" in 6 months for a shop it should have been perfected i would think....congrats on getting the help you deserve tho.
Well today I finished the tear down on the engine. (Please make sure your seat is in the upright and locked position)
Cyl. # 3 Rod bearing blown. beyond O.C. But thank god the crank isnt to bad off. A good polishing and it can be saved without being cut..
All rod bearing are over torqued. It took more then 110lbs to crack them loose. (Toyota specs are 22 ft lbs mark and go another 90 degrees)
While removing the cylinder head I found a EXTRA ARP 12pt nut & flat washer wedged in the oil return galley.
Also I had to remove the studs to take the head off for a couple reasons. Reason #1 3 studs would not come out of the head while unbolted. while loosing these studs they worked like screw jack and lifted the head off the block. Once off the block and on the bench I had to take a BFH (Big Frickin Hammer) and tap the studs out of the head. They must have over torqued them too and mushroomed the bolt holes in the head to pinch it to the studs. Reason # 2. Spray on gasket sealer on a M.L.S. metal gasket.
Now its time to start dropping parts in to the cleaning tanks, Machine shop time, and the dreaded waiting for parts to arrive.
Stay tuned.... More info to come..... Same Bat time...same bat channel.

i was so upset yesterday during tear down that i literally was shaking to the point that i was sweating...i had to go home and shower because i was soaked....i have never in my life been so stressed/upset/dissapointed in my life....i didnt even sleep on sunday night...just tossed and turned
Travis, what makes me irate is that **** sucker has the gall to respond in the matter that he is and pushing it all on you! I drop a **** ton of cash into my Z... I'm debt free so it's all cash no credit and I know how hard it is to put all that cash towards an end product. I haven't been shafted so I can't relate to the feeling of getting raped but dude... if that moron is reading this thread and I sincerely hope he is, He needs to stop talking about it and either accommodate you or just remove himself from it completely.
What I saw one page 1 was bad but the pages to follow... seriously can not be excused in any way. Best of luck to you and kudos to the guys who have clean up that idiots mess.

last night at a meet, i bumped into a friend/photographer of mine who surprisingly had heard about this story as well. apparently it's all over the forums and facebook by now. he said he saw your car at the shop during the winter time and witnessed the damage and neglect done to your car. he also said you should've taken your car to E-shift Performance so they could assist with the rebuild since they have a lot of experience with the 2J motors. but hopefully this new shop where you're at can complete it the correct way and in a timely manner.

As for this engine. Im not going to say whats all getting done to it. I'll let Travis have that pleasure. He ordered all the parts for it today. And he has more photo he took. If his work and school times allows it. He will be getting greasey in this build too. So this time he can see whats really happening as the build progresses.
No longer need to worry about the rebuild. This isnt my first rodeo. LOL. Ive built a few motor in my 24 years as a mechanic (not a parts changer) Ive done just about everything that car be done to a car. Only two things I hate doing. Automatic transmissions and body work. I can do them, but I decide not to. I know a couple people that all they do is trans work so I pass it off to them. As for Bodywork. I do it on my stuff, but my best friend is a bodyman so Im always trying to keep him busy.
