I am thinking of doing my final drive gears soon and I was wondering if there are any write ups on a DIY since Ive never done a rear differential before, I did a search but yielded no results. I understand replacing differential but Im looking for some info on the clearance and shimming of the ring and pinion assembly.

 

Your search is about as comprehensive as your reply; that is, none.

 

Take it to a shop, you'll mess it up. It's an art more than anything. Shim it wrong and its gonna whine and tear faster.

 

Gears, pinion bearing, seal and crush washer all delivered to my driveline shop with just my 3rd member, $175 installed. Simple and easy.
