I think I could actually feel a diference. Pulling a hard right our of my driveway as I do every morning, the car feel a little lighter on it's front tires this time. Acceleration is slightly (read slight) better. But hey, also peace of mind knowing that heavy *** (and man is it heavy) OEM battery is out of there.
I thought you installed back on 1/21/04?

Anyone know the CCA and Ah ratings of the stock battery? I was looking for them today on the battery and couldn't see them. I'd like soemthing with more reserve as my alarm drains the stock one within a week if I'm not careful and I have a feeling the stock doesn't like even this amount of cycling.

EDIT: Jeff, which battery is the SC51RDA on the Optima site? It doesn't appear to match up with the models they have listed. Thanks.

His poles aren't reversed, you just turned your battery around the other direction.

Have a look at the photos again. One of them is the reverse of the other. In both pics the posts are closest to the camera yet one has the positive on the right while the other has the positive on the left. If you turn the battery around the posts will be at the rear, further away from the camera and you'd probably have the same reach problem with the cables.

I just installed the Optima Yellow Top 51R. I got from the stereo shop where I had dynamat and vblock installed. I go with the philosophy of weight in / weight out, so it was a must buy after reading this thread.

The stock Bose sounds much better with the Nissan Motorsports grounding kit, dynamat and optima battery.

I just wanted to know the stock battery specs.

If the Optima battery weighs 27lbs and OEM is 39lbs the weight savings is only 12lbs. Not 22lbs for everyone who is claiming this. Also the Optima 51R is not equal or stronger than the OEM battery. The Optima 51R does work and save weight. It provides more consistent power as well. For $129.99 is it worth it, no. The 34 series Red Top Optima is better choice when power is required.

All that said, I'm still keeping mine. Just a little upset about the quoted weights.

If any of you can feel the difference in acceleration from a lightweight battery you should committ yourselves to a local institution right now bc you are craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy

This may be partly my fault. The stuff I quoted above was for a Nissan factory replacement battery. I do not have a stock one out of a car on hand. I think the stock original battery may weigh more!!!

I don't doubt that the replacement that you are quoting could be different from the stock battery.

Is the replacement battery dry and/or maintenance free like the Optima battery?

I was very disappointed that the factory Nissan battery in their flagship car is not maintenance free. When I saw the fill lines on the factory battery, I decided that it was going to stay out. The weight savings, CCA, CA, etc. does not mean much when you have a cheap POS factory battery that should have never came on the car.

Replacement "FACTORY" battery is made by Interstate Battery, to Nissan's spec's and badging. It is a wet type battey with caps that pop off the top for maintainance.

Any luck with the stock battery CCA and Ah ratings? Alternatively the Ah rating for the replacement battery listed above (I'm assuming the replacement is better than the stock which is the usual practice).

I just installed the 51R Yellow top Optima Battery.. I weighted both batteries..

OEM = 36lbs
Optima=26lbs

Total saving = 10lbs..

There you have it!

Other than that, the starting (cranking) power seems to be similar... I will definitely keep the Optima battery because it will last longer than the factory battery..
